Turtle Found by U.S. Coast Guard With $53 Million Worth of Cocaine Attached to It

Submitted by: daegog 1 month ago in Misc
A giant sea turtle had to be rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after it became entangled in a rope attached to packages filled with millions of dollars of cocaine on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard cutter Thetis, which is stationed in Key West, Florida, was on a 68-day deployment when it came across the turtle trying to escape from 26 bales of cocaine.

You call that turtle a "giant"? Surely you exaggerate! Wonder how many other turtles were roped in as drug runners. Poor creatures. No mercy to the smugglers if caught.

I thought the smugglers had attached the cocaine to the turtle on purpose :-O

Why do drug enforcement people always exaggerate the size and value of their catches? I don't think each of those little bundles held 70 pounds of drugs. 20 maybe, picture a sack of flour :/ Their $53 million estimate for that large weight is average US street value... (I looked it up) so I suppose that's not too far off.

Anyhow, since the coast guard and other Drug Enforcement agencies track all ships at sea, two ships coming together and then one racing to the shore is a dead give-away of smugglers. They drop it overboard with some sort of GPS tracker on it, and later a different ship picks it up to bring it in: the ships could be miles apart.

Oh great. Now Trump's going to build a wall in the ocean to block these crafty fellas.

Who wants to bet someone is dead because someone else thought they either stole the coke or dropped it in the wrong area?
I couldn't give half a shit about the coke. I'm just very happy the turtle is ok.

The electronics strapped on to the danbuoys look as though could be phones or GPS beacons - there's a nice opportunity for a sting operation there; I bet someone's looking to recover that stash.
