Everyone Wants To Try Ayahuasca Now That It's Become The Latest Hip Drug Experience

Submitted by: littlemissqt 5 days ago in Science

Who'd be willing to give it a go? People call it a religious experience, but not everyone comes out alive. It's not a cheap high though, and you have to go to Peru to take it.

I took DMT once, that is the distilled product of Ayahuasca.

It's not called "the most powerful hallucinogen" for nothing. What was it like?

1. No, you can't move while you are high. You fall back, then reality is gone. You lie still and cannot even sit up, it's impossible to harm yourself or others in this situation.

2. It's the most intense "high" ever. No, you don't want to go back right away as with many other drugs. The dose I took was nine years ago, and I didn't have the nerve to do it again. It's so intense and amazing, it's not something you take lightly or casually or routinely. It's not a "party drug", see above. It's something you do if you are curious about reality and the mind.

3. The experience lasts fifteen minutes. Then, you are fine. The only lasting effects are a feeling of peace, amazement at what the human mind is capable of, major questioning of reality as we know it, and colors look somewhat dull, because the colors you see are the most vivid you will ever see.

4. You will see things that other people see on this drug, even if they don't know about the stuff that you're "supposed" to see. You will also see things that you and you alone will see.

I saw the "wall of eyes" and spoke to a bemused God who saw me as a small, ignorant child. That's kind of incredible in and of itself. I have seen many illustrations online of the "wall of eyes" since I took DMT, but it's very hard to interpret with a 2D drawing or painting.

5. And, last, it really does not matter where you take it, as long as you feel safe. You are not in this reality, you're in a place that words are inadequate to describe. When I took it, it was as if the curtain of reality was torn in half, and I saw "real" reality for the first time. Some people have bad trips and see "imps", I had a friend who saw himself by a frozen pond for a thousand years. Sounds ludicrous, but having taken it, I can tell you it's possible to experience things like that and not leave your body.

6. Last, I have taken 'shrooms and acid in the past. They are both milder, much milder versions of DMT, and show different aspects of what can be experienced by the human mind. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you are very curious and a bit brave, it's the experience of a lifetime.

Just a side note, there are many drugs I would not touch with a ten or twenty foot pole. I only have experimented with things which are proven pretty well to be non-addictive and help expand the mind.

thubanstar This sounds exactly like what my friends experienced.  Definitely something right up my alley.  It's been about 10 years since I last took a hallucinogenic and I've kind of been itching to do so again.  Unfortunately it's availability is basically non-existent.  My friends came across it about 5 years ago and it was just enough for 2 people.  Luckily I'm patient person so I'll just keep waiting, when it shows up that means it time to learn something new :)

Nah, my psychedelic days are long since over. Friend of mine tried it and was very positive but not for me. Thirty or so years ago I might have tried it if offered, but not on an organised tour.

I feel no need to try. I have no problems with others doing it.

My mom did this last year in Peru.  Its hit or miss with the Shamans, how they make the drug, and most  importantly, how the other people in the group are handling it.

She said the experience was mainly bad because the ayahuasca was old, cold, and relatively weak.  Also the sensation of having to constantly shit and listening to others in the group screaming that they thought they were dying was a buzz kill...

I dunno, looks rough, but I given my druthers, I would feel safer trying that drug than swimming around in that swamp water.

Drug use is pretty bad.  Best to stay away from it if you can.

Never tried it, but apparently its amazing, The main active ingredient is DMT, A psychedelic substance that is naturally occuring within the brain. Its produced during during a deep sleep, its what makes you dream. If you have lucid dreams, your brain is producing a higher level.

This stuff gives your brain an overdose of DMT and you essentially go into the most intense Dream while you are wide awake. Sounds fun, aslong as your not prone to nightmares xD

layla_wilson Several friends of mine came across some DMT a few years ago.  Their experience was life altering according to them.  We all have tripped in various ways but DMT apparently is a mind-opener beyond anything they experienced.

I'm totally down for trying it if it ever presents itself, especially after learning its only about a 15 min trip that seems to last for an eternity.  Compared to the 3 hrs this stuff lays on you, I'll take the short trip thank you very much :)

madduck I had a couple of friends who experimented with dmt. One guy poured hot chocolate over his head just as his parents came downstairs. My buddy decided to lie to his parents and told them he wasn't on anythng but weed. His parents had him committed. He lied to his doctors  about what he took too, told them he had just taken weed and alcohol. He was there for a few weeks. I have some really stupid friends.

madduck Shrooms? Isn't that an Americanism? We called them mushers back in my day. Fairly plentiful along the Tyne Valley but Gower was the mother-lode. I don't know if it's true but it was widely believed that mushrooms were legal if eaten as picked but not if processed in any way.

LordJim ive always called them shrooms- plentiful here and free, and yes, it used to be fine if you just ate them but they changed the law a few years back.

madduck  I tried shrooms once. I thought it was the hallucinogenic   kind. I spent the next 72 hours cleaning my dorm room and every time I tried to lay down I thought I was going to die. I felt great as long as I was active. My room was spotless after that too
