My uncle was a tunnel   rat during Vietnam
Part of his job was disarming the explosives they  would hide in the tunnel  walls

I just want to go behind some one who is disposing a bomb with a brown paper bag blown up and pop it. See what happens.

I learned perspective when I asked a friend who was a bomb disposal specialist just how stressful his job was.

He replied, "It's not stressful at all.  I either get it right, or it's suddenly someone else's problem."

megrendel One of my students worked in bomb disposal for one of the branches (can’t recall which).  I asked him what the biggest misrepresentation was from movies and he simply said that they never leave it down to a 50/50 choice.  There is no dilemma over which wire to cut with a ticking clock.

(I guess if they aren’t sure, they secure the area and detonate it with a robot or something.)

faustsshadow Yeah, it would seem that Acme is always having a sell on huge red countdown displays....and every bomb is required to have one.

megrendel If you were putting a count-down timer on a bomb surely you would fake it. Fifteen minutes and eight seconds BOOM, gotcha.

megrendel A version I got from a gent doing similar work for one of the agencies that don't exist, said basically:

"I don't worry at all.  If I make a mistake, I'll never know."

There is a fairly good show "Danger UXB" about the unexploded bomb squads of wwII London.... not this skit, which is good but a drama.
