It's about time to science it up a notch.

Fun facts: the Bb trumpet is 4.5 feet long, and its resonant pitch is Bb (see how that works) below middle C. Bb Trombones are 9 feet long, and its resonant pitch is Bb (again, see how that works) an octave below the trumpet. BBb tubas are approximately 18 feet long, and its resonant pitch is Bb below the trombone.

For valved instruments, every time a valve is pressed, the length of the tube is increased, changing the resonant pitch. 2nd valve lowers the pitch by a minor second, 1st lowers by a major second, 3rd OR 1st and 2nd lowers the pitch by a minor third, 2nd and 3rd lowers it by a major third, 4th (if applicable) OR 1st and 3rd lowers it by a perfect fourth, 1st 2nd and 3rd OR 2nd and 4th lowers it by a tritone, repeat the pattern with the 4th valve to continue the pattern.
