The Dad Who Went As A Nazi And Dressed His 5-year-old Son As Hitler For Halloween Was "Mistreated"

Submitted by: daegog 2 weeks ago in News & Politics

An excerpt from the New York Post: A Kentucky dad who dressed up his 5-year-old son as Adolf Hitler – and himself as a Nazi soldier – for a Halloween event has apologized after a furious backlash.

“I wasn’t trying to make a statement or put my son in any position,” Bryant Goldbach of Owensboro, Kentucky, told The Owensboro Times. “It was bad judgment. I want people to know I am sorry.”

Goldbach insisted that he is not a racist and said he believes white supremacy is “disgusting,” according to the news outlet.

“My brother is half-Iranian,” Goldbach said. “I have black friends. My last name is Jewish.”

A photo of Goldbach and his son in costume surfaced across social media and went viral late last week, resulting in widespread criticism.

Goldbach claimed he’s received death threats.

“I understand that people are mad, but please leave my family alone,” he whined to The Owensboro Times.

It was a far cry from his initial response to the public anger over the outfits.

Goldbach and his son wore their Nazi costumes to a local Halloween gathering Thursday in downtown Owensboro dubbed the “Trail of Treats.” After Goldbach was angrily confronted by other trick-or-treaters at the 5,000 person event, he defended himself on Facebook.

“Anyone who knows us knows that we love history, and often dress the part of historical figures. Tonight as we walked we saw people dressed as murderers, devils, serial killers, blood and gore of all sorts. Nobody batted an eye,” Goldbach wrote in a post on Facebook.

Never pick a famous person to dress in for Halloween
They are too easily picked out a crowd and too easily missed

In Hitler's defence, he did kill Hitler so that's something.

Why does everybody keep the bullshit narrative that Hitler was the most evil person in history. He doesn't even make the top 10.
He was no more evil than any other Soldier. He's only said you have had seven kills during World War 1 and Chris Kyle claims to have a hundred and forty.

That's the best way to prove how prejudiced people are. Pretty much put on any historical costume and prepare to be judged; especially by the Liberals

Man, the left just can't stop causing problems.

cjeffblanchr I heard about this story a week ago and did my digging then.  The Wife has a long storied Social Media full of Racists and Pro Hitler nOnsense.  Holocaust denial included.  The reason I did something like that is because to me NUANCE matters.  I thought maybe this could be thought police or whatever but it appears this family espouses these beliefs, and if that's the case they should be bashed every which way.

normalfreak2 I didn't mean to come off as such an ass.  I think I'm just blown away by how many people these days care so much about what complete stranger are doing that they go digging on their social media accounts.  But I do get what you're saying.

normalfreak2 Actually there were lots of "work camps" especially in France and Germany to build hardened airfields and underground factories and such things... hundreds of thousands died in those too... mostly captured Russian soldiers, iirc.
Stalin's gulags were every bit as bad as the death camps... just less efficient.

Still? She's full of shit :p She's trying to make the death camps into something they were not. That's just wrong. The Nazis kept meticulous records...

If it were me i'd say

"The internet is full of whiny desperate people.  If you don't like a picture don't look at it.  You're free to complain and i'm all for your complaining, i'll even defend your right to complain.  I just want you to know i'm laughing at the stupidity of your whining, and we are all having a great time at how you made this Halloween costume viral, when there are shows on tv like 'the man in high castle' and you hypocrites are gobbling it up.  SO in short, do me a favor and keep whining, because i'm having a great time!  For those who haven't whined about it, awesome!  help teach these snowflakes to stop whining so much because whining accomplishes very little!"

monkwarrior Nuance matters doesn't it?  His wife appears to be a holocaust Denier.  My gut says this family could be a White Supremacists Nazi Sympathizer.  At least it's worth considering that based on the evidence.

The Officers outfit is just a bit too well made to be just a halloween   costume. I believe he might be wearing it more often than Halloween
Btw happy all souls day
Our research suggests that this is the human  cellabration
of the day where the devout sell their souls

thezigrat Owning historical costumes isn't a crime.
Re-enactments of historical events isn't a crime.
Wearing a Nazi uniform (with the Swastika armband) to a public Halloween party isn't a crime... but it is really goddamn stupid! O_o

So I'm saying that just owning such a uniform doesn't make one "a Nazi" but the rest of his history (as NF2 looked up) does.

thezigrat my first thought before I even read the article. That outfit is way too good for just a Halloween costume. That shit is displayed in a case in their living room.

This does bring up a good point. At what point does it become acceptable to dress as divisive historical figures?

Dressing up as Hitler or a Nazi: no!
Dressing up as Stonewall Jackson or a Confederate soldier: go for it!

We're getting to the point where WWII and the Civil War will be closer to each other, than the present and WWII.

In fact, going from end date of the CW to start date of WWII is 74 years.
Going from the end date of WWII to 2018 is 73 years.

DuckBoy87 While I find that conversation fun that doesn't apply to this one here.  Read his wife's social media, that household has white Supremacists views.

Dress up as a Confederate soldier?  Why is that a problem?  If you dressed up as a specific one say like General Lee, I'd say that's comparable.  Since he was a specific Traitor.  Dressing as a Nazi Officer is different than a solider for the German Army.

normalfreak2 Didn't see their social media. That's a very good point. If they are in fact white supremacists, then their pleas should fall on deaf ears. Not to the point of harassment, mind you.

DuckBoy87  Mao or Stalin, Che or Fidel? Those are all A-OK right? :/ Public opinion is a fickle thing.

However? That sort of costume and uniform are just not for public display. There's plenty of people who will get mad about it, he should have known that.

For an historical re-enactment or private gathering? Sure? But his (and those I listed) costume just isn't publicly acceptable. Particularly with the two armbands' Swastika...
