Taco Bell Has Been Voted The Best Mexican Restaurant In The Country

Submitted by: trimble 2 months ago in Weird

What?

An excerpt from WFSB News: The Harris Poll, a nationwide customer survey of their favorite brands, has released its 2018 results.

The poll surveyed more than 77,000 customers in the U.S. on more than 3,000 brands to find which companies are the favorites among consumers.

Respondents weighed in on everything from printers to pizza, and the results are surprising. Here are some of consumers’ top choices.

Best Mexican Restaurant: Taco Bell

The after-hours crowd is still probably Taco Bell's biggest customer base, but the company has grown its popularity through creative ads like the Nacho Fries conspiracy theory movie trailers starring Josh Duhamel and a strong social media presence.

Taco Bell was the only restaurant to survive the franchise war. So, now all restaurants are Taco Bell.

Two things I have never done in my life: cocaine and Taco Bell.  At 48, I'm not about to start any of the two.  I've heard too many bad things about both.

marsii   I would be willing to bet the under 30 crowd was the driving force for this and we all know that they don't vote. And coming from today's colleges they have to be libs. anyway.
And do you think a generation raised on chicken mcnuggets would even know what good food is.

marsii   Just because you can take a picture of over priced food does not mean that you know good food.

marsii   Not my point, my point is that there are so many that think there the beginning and end all in knowing good food quality and then they vote for Taco bell as the best.
And how many times have you read about yelp being used as a hammer for some half assed political hatchet job?
And I'd be willing to bet all me and my other grandpas would not vote for a restaurant that is known for their ground beef, or because they have served 6 million hamburgers.

casaledana If you only use Yelp for politics you're using it wrong and living wrong.

Are there any other nationwide chain Mexican restaurants any more since Chi-Chi's went belly up?  I honestly don't think there are any in my area other than Chipotle and they don't count ;)

kalron I haven’t seen a chi-chi’s in probably 20 years or so. I don’t know about nation wide places, but I find the little hole in the wall joints pretty yummy. I also have a soft spot for some Pollo Regio or El pollo Loco as far as fast food style goes. Even the tacos at the gas station by my house are pretty damn good. There is also El fenix or On the Border to choose from..There are several Mexican places about on every corner here. Alot of Tex-mex joints too.

pinkminx22 Hole in the wall Mexican joints is where it is at, in every city, in every town, there is a good one.  I guess that beats a chain every time.

Although, I sure as hell miss Chi-Chi's fried ice cream.  I still think about it from time to time.

fancylad I've actually never seen a Del Taco.  Might be one in Philly or Baltimore but not as accessible as Chi-Chi's use to be.

kalron Wow, I never knew. You're not missing much. If you've ever had the two, Del Taco is the lesser of the two by a close margin.

fancylad I don’t generally do fast Mexican. Moe’s is one I enjoy though. We have too many great Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants here in the upstate to bother. Our local favorite is Poppa’s and Beer. It’s Calimexian and really good. Their table white bean dip is to die for.

fancylad I think del taco is more of a west coast thing. And all the ones near me seem to be closing. There used to be 3 in my city , now there's only one

rammo34 I guess Del Taco is going the way of Naugles. (Now that's an obscure west coast reference.

kalron I have a conspiracy theory relating to this. In almost every big city in America that i've spent a significant amount of time in, it seems like there's a standard greasy local quick mexican chain with the same uncomfortable orange chairs/booths and generally the same menu of combination plates, burritos, tortas, etc. They always have really good breakfast burritos.

Are they all connected somehow?

Not going to lie. I really like Taco Bell. More often than not it is my go-to if I have to get fast food. It is the only fast food I can eat that doesn't make me feel like shit afterwards.

holygod When I was a dumb young college kid with the metabolism of a hummingbird, I loved Taco Bell's chili cheese burrito. It was just a tortilla with a bunch of chili sauce and shredded cheese, rolled up and hotter than magma. It was so good after a night of drinking cheap beer.

holygod Or did you mean it's the only food that makes you shit afterwards? That's most folks read on it. I prefer Jack In The Box Tacos. Nice and greasy.

Forplay2k "Jack In The Box got kicked out of Michigan for serving kangaroo meat."
That's funny. Jack-in-the-box doesn't serve actual food, in my opinion, but no Jack-in-the-box store has ever served kangaroo meat to a customer. Nevertheless, if that had happened, it would not break any law in the country. Further, Jack-in-the-box was never 'kicked out' of Michigan.
Aside from those minor points, you're right.

Forplay2k In the early 70’s I worked at the Campell’s Soup factory in Camden NJ on the loading dock. We used to unload trucks full of boxes that said Australia, Meat. I’ll leave that to your imagination.

scheckydamon   I don't know about kangaroo meat. (is he being funny? then ok) But years ago I believe in the 1980s a company that sold meat to McDonald's was caught selling meat that had been mixed 50/50 with horse meat. It was never proven that the meat that they had sold to McDs had horse meat in it, by the time the inspectors started checking, all the meat from that company had all been sold. So you can think what you want.

casaledana It is perfectly legal to eat or serve horsemeat in most states in the US, but it is illegal to slaughter a horse for human consumption in this country.
I have had burgers at McDonalds that seemed to have come from an animal that died of old age.

scheckydamon I eat fairly healthy, so deep fried or overly greasy stuff messes me up. I used to eat like that, but once I changed my diet I can't.
