Fascinating.  Subliminally I felt a similarity in the portrayal of several of his characters but never really made the leap to them being the same actor.

Doug Jones doesn't get enough credit indeed.  He is like a living Muppet, his physical transformations and performances are top notch.

Jones' character 'Saru' on is the only character I like on the new Star Trek Discovery

Gerry1of1 I agree.  Saru was the only reason I kept watching.

Good service brings repeat customers.  Its true in all professions.  He is a professional that understands his strengths and weaknesses.

Its a shame that playing heavily made-up characters never seems to lend itself to full recognition as an actor.

I remember that McDonalds commercial enough to recognize the moon-character.  Can't remember what he was singing though.

One has to wonder if his regular casting in these creature-character roles is in-part based on a history of reliability.  If he's having to spend almost as much as a full-shift just getting made-up, then having to work another full shift to film, then having to retire to sleep and immediately start over again a few hours later, that takes a lot of commitment to the job to do that day after day after day.  If he's reliable and easy to work with then it makes sense they'd keep using him to keep production schedules from slipping.

They might also find that his somewhat unusual shape makes it easier to build characters on him that don't themselves look weird in the wrong ways, and if they have good molds of his head and neck then building new characters for him might be fairly easy too.
