I love sportsing and balls, but I hate the NCAA. You're making billions off these kids... But you'll pull scholarships if a coach even buys them a sandwich? That's what the bad guys do. You are the bad guys.

Can we talk about a number 16 seed winning for the first time ever? In 135 attempts? And not just winning but blowing them out by 20? And not just a #1 seed, but the overall #1 seed?

holygod That was pretty amazing, we always knew it had to happen eventually (a 16 beating a 1), but to happen in that fashion was just great to see.

Apparently that single game eliminated every bracket filled out on ESPNs website this year.  Hard to imagine anyone still has a perfect bracket at this point.

daegog Ya I heard there were 25 perfect brackets left when that game started and none of them survived it.

I have 6 teams correct in the sweet 16 on my bracket. Plus I had UNC repeating. So I can pretty much go fuck myself.

The best bracket in my office only has 9 right. This year has been nuts. I can't remember a crazier year.

In the sweet 16 we have:
2 1s
2 2s
2 3s
A 4
3 5s
2 7s
2 9s
2 11s

That means 9 of the 16 are the result of upsets.

In the South bracket NONE of the top 4 seeds make it. That is nuts.

rumham Being invested in it IS silly. I'm not at all invested in it. It's a game. Outcome doesn't affect me in any way. I find the odds and probability interesting. That's all.

rumham Oh dude, do whatever floats your boat. Tailgate for 6 hours and then go to the game shirtless in full body paint and scream your head off ring side. More power to you. I personally find it silly. That doesn't matter. The world is a miserable place, if that brings you joy, enjoy the fuck out of it.

holygod im not 5cats or others who keep vast backlogs, i just know you said i was stupid for caring about sport on a previous post. its not that important i was just shocked to see someone as intelligent as you talking about sports with any implied interest, i thought it was beneath you

rumham Hmmm. Dunno. I don't think I make fun of people for being entertained by sports. I do tend to make fun of them for saying "we won" or "we scored" and for being emotionally invested in the outcome. I think it is a little silly when people ball their eyes out because a group of people they have never met didn't put a ball through a hoop more than another group.

I don't think intelligence and sports fandom are mutually exclusive.

I personally don't really watch sports. I haven't watched a single game all the way through in the past few years except for the super bowl as a cultural touchstone. I haven't watched any of the NCAA tournament games either.

I just enjoy tracking the statistics and probability. Sports are played so frequently that I find outliers interesting. Boston coming back from 0-3 to beat the Yankees in the playoffs, Kobe scoring 81, the Patriots comeback against Atlanta in the super bowl, UMBC beating Virginia, etc.

I'm more of a math geek than a sports geek.

holygod sports chatter on the internet and political chat on the internet has become very similar. i love sports but i dont post on espn or bleacher report. i like the actual game itself. first sport memory was listening to the penguins on the radio, then sid bream on tv kill the pirates. those are two hugeeeee moments. are they important? yes no, i do agree the whole fantasy sports culture is horrid. but thats another post.

Wow, so much emotion in this clip. I can watch and re-watch this clip looking at each person's facial expressions on the court.
