Trump Now Denies His Shithole Remark

Submitted by: fancylad 10 months ago in News & Politics

During another early-morning Twitter rant, Trump denied at least part of the The Washington Post story that claimed he called El Salvador, Haiti, and those in Africa "shithole countries."

Initially, the White House did not deny that Trump made the inflammatory remark. He's cracking. He usually doubles down and stands by what he says. Any idea what's finally getting to him?

People in Norway have great healthcare and free higher education.

Why the fuck would they want to come to the US?

If you think about it, there has to be some mental illness setting in. As holygod mentioned earlier, i think it might be dementia, too.

After all, why would a "shrewd businessman" be so dumb as to speak so freely in a meeting attended by people outside the White House. That's a rooking move, and this is the guy who wrote* The Art of the Deal. I don't know how fast dementia sets in, but I know it doesn't lessen, it only gets worse so I guess we just ride it out for another year or so. [*Ghostwritten by Tony Schwartz]

fancylad He might be trying to run his country like he did the "boardroom" of his show.  Apparently the way they came up with his speeches was he sat and rambled (with the contestants as a captive audience) for a couple of hours.  Then his producers would go back and cut together the good bits.  Now he does the same thing and reporters only hear about the worst bits.

His words (afaik): Edit: Nope, lolz! I mis-read the excerpt, this is from an article:
"Let’s be clear about one thing here: Haiti is a shithole. I’ve been there twice. It has a cholera epidemic thanks to the United Nations and a burgeoning child sex trafficking problem thanks to the predilections of evil people. It is really a hellish place. But the whole point of the temporary status welcoming immigrants from these countries is based on them being real shitholes – places so dangerous and awful that we won’t send refugees from them back to the countries because they’ll probably die, or worse. That’s the whole point of granting this policy in the first place."

Edit: it's from this article: http://thefederalist.com/2018/01/12/haiti-werent-shithole-citizens-wouldnt-need-refugee-status-u-s/

And yes, Haiti is a shithole, it is literally hell and that's why people want to leave it so desperately. :shrugs:

Trump said: "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" Which is a perfectly valid question, if rudely spoken :/

5cats Yea people who live in shithole countries immigrate to NON SHIThole countries.  That's how this works.  Trump has a long list of  dog-whistles. People from countries doing well don't immigrate down.  They immigrate up.

normalfreak2 So ONLY shithole nations should be allowed to emigrate into the USA? Is that your final solution?
The idea is that valuable and useful persons should come and add to the goodness of the USA, not subtract from it.
Sure, take in refugees and such, but encourage good, productive and skilled people to move there, not welfare masses who will only vote for Democrats... oh wait that IS THE plan isn't it. :/
-1
Reply
Male 9,627
5cats No that's NOT the plan.  You allow anyone who wants to better themselves FROM wherever they may be to allow them to come to this nation.  There shouldn't be a test.  Some people want a better life, let them TRY to achieve it.
1
Reply
Male 42,934
normalfreak2 But that is NOT what benefits the accepting nation: they NEED intelligent, skilled workers and NOT permanent welfare cases.

That is why immigrants are SCREENED ok? Jesus man, EVERYONE wants to 'better themselves' and if moving from a shithole to the opulence of America is an option, of course they'll WANT to do so.
But America, and any other nation on Earth, has NO obligation to do so.

What helps America? 1 million skilled workers with their won money and English speaking? Or 1 million permanent welfare recipients who don't speak 2 words of English and have zero skills? The JOB of government is to benefit it's OWN people, not the people of other nations...

Supreme Court pick.
Signing orders cutting business and job killing regulations.
Pulling out of, not renewing/signing or trying to renegotiate treaty’s, accords etc., that do nothing but cost us money,  jobs and exasperate the very problems they allegedly attempt to solve.
Most of all the tax cuts and all of the above that will indeed lead to 4%+ economic growth.

We don’t hear a lot about those in the media, just all this nonsense that is meant to drive you nuts and pump up his base.

You just don't want to see the left  saying anything good about Trump.  There's plenty of positive, the problem is Trump is his own worst enemy.  What do you want the media to do?  Not report the STUPID shit he says?  He's the damn President.  I wouldn't call anything a hatchet job, Trump opens his mouth and users twitter. He's his own worst enemy.

Middle class tax cuts are good, I'm okay with those.  My criticism is the gigantic tax breaks he gave to people like himself all the while saying "Believe me this isn't good for me".  that type of bullshit is annoying.

But it was nearly identical to one that Obama proposed and wasn't passed by Congress... and the MSM went mental back then saying how could Congress not pass this super-fantastic program to help so many... & etc.

When Obama and Trump have done the EXACT same things? And it has happened many times already: Obama was GOOD and Trump was EVIL. For the same thing...

trimble Fucking the environment over for shot term gain (resource extraction in National Parks) isn't a good idea.

Ripping up agreements that have kept North America growing despite Wall Street doing its best to steal the Kitchen flooring, is unintelligent.

Picking a fight with a tin-pot dictator just because he's also a narcissistic twit isn't good policy.

Slashing income while expanding debt is short term thinking.  Trying to spend hundreds of billions to build a wall that will bring zero benefit, turning your back on international relationships that have taken decades to develop for short term internal political gain isn't good policy.

No benefit? 10 million illegals cost trillions of dollars to the USA every year: spending 100 Billion once to save even (only) 500 billion every year is called SMART.

And your boy Obama called for a secure border, as did your boy Bill...

3) Neither Obama or Bill were boys of mine, but the cost/benefit for this bullshit is unbelieveable.   Also if 10 M illegals were costing even 1 Trillion, then they'd all be getting a million each year.  Math is hard, try again.

Also, there was zero outrage when Obama called Lybia a "ShitShow" in an interview in 2016.

Thus I consider most of the current outrage a little fake.

Again, I'm not crazy about Trump, but so far he is STILL better than the alternative was.  I'll take inept over criminally corrupt any day.

Present it.
People move around, it's what people do! And every nation wants educated, skilled and law-abiding immigrants: that's just common sense!
It SHOULD be easier for a skilled, educated Norwegian with proper English to get in than an un-skilled, no education non-English speaker from a shit hole. Period.
Refugee status? ENTRIELY DIFFERENT. ok?
If you want some Somali terrorist to move to the USA unfetted? Let him stay at YOUR house... along with the rest of his friends he'll "chain in" after he gets status... but don't force others to take them if YOU don't want them.

MANY thousands of Swedes moved to the USA in the past 150 years... LOOK at Minnesota! Many thousands of Icelanders moved to Manitoba, Canada in that time too. People move! Deciding who gets in and who gets rejected is the JOB of the government!
