I'm surprised bees aren't on this list? Especially killing people with alergies..

@robthelurker: If you know you're lethally allergic to bees & wasps? Seeing one on your arm = terror!
Sure, sharks are scary, but not particularly 'deadly' to 99.9999% of us.
"Intention" is irrelevant after you're dead, eh? Animals do what they do.
@CreamK & @chalket: "It's not the shark that kills you, it's the massive blood loss!"
If those critters carry the other, microscopic critters or diseases? Then THEY (eg: mosquitoes) are the ones to worry about.
But really? Snails? How about eating bad oysters?? Why aren't oysters listed?

I have to agree with DavidXJ and CreamK, I can't imagine mosquitoes or snails killing many people (if any), it's the parasites and diseases they might carry. The host critter isn't dangerous and has no intent to kill, unlike the *actual* dangerous animals on the list.

I couldn't find any info on how freshawater snails could kill you. Some parasites use them as intermediary hosts but then are eaten by fish, which is eaten by a human. Wouldn't that make the fish the parasite carriers and the "culprit"? So in another sense, mosquitoes, tsetse flys and freshwater snails figures should be just combined to one big category "parasites"

"sharks have a bad reputation, entirely undeserved"
everybody knows that more people die of bee stings than shark attacks, but what everybody also knows is that being attacked by a shark is a hell of a lot scarier than being chased by a bumble bee. sharks dont have their scary mean reputation for killing lots of people, sharks have their mean scary reputation because they are brutal killing machines. jaws only killed like 5 people, it wasnt the number of people dying that scared people, it was the giant freaking shark with hundreds of razor sharp teeth brutally attacking swimmers that scared people. the great white shark is a beautiful majestic creature, sure, and i have a great deal of respect for the creature, but it is also a scary bloodthirsty killing machine. "What we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks, and that's all."

Even more reason for me to stay in Canada. Where the bugs are just really, really plentiful, not deadly.

These statistics always annoy me. How many people living in FIRST world countries die every year because of mosquitos and flies? I've known one person who got West Nile Virus, and they're still alive.
Mosquitos and flies aren't dangerous (or dogs, for that matter), the diseases they carry are. Snakes (or humans, if you want to be scientifically literal and ignore the intended meaning of the phrase "deadly animal") win by a mile as the most deadly animal.

Yup, Malaria, Dengue Fever, Yellow Fever and other diseases are spread by these little terrors.
It's why we should be allowing 3rd world nations the use of DDT, that would save millions of human lives.

They left out Whitetail Deer, those things are deadly! Flinging themselves at your car...
Bees and wasps too, due to allergies.
But yeah, sharks have a very bad reputation, entirely undeserved. Mosquitoes are easily #1.
