LPG conversion/propane fuelled car. Tank is usually fitted behind the rear seats or in the spare wheel well. Looks like the tank ruptured somehow (maybe got over heated from a faulty exhaust?) and blew.

looks like a propane-fueled car who's tank has just ruptured for some unknown reason. you can see the gas escaping as a high-pressured sub-zero mist clearly.

That's why you never give Johnny Storm a ride to the airport.

I agree with @ForSquirel, there is a new method out now for cooking meth, it only requires a single soda bottle and some batteries and chemicals. Meth heads use this method and keep it in hidden parts of their cars, usually in the back under items. That way if SWAT busts in, as they are prone to doing, they may not have warrant to search the car and may overlook it and if they are pulled over, then its in the back hidden. Thats the hope anyway, but its also efficient to dealing meth to make more. Many meth dealers are addicts as well.
But the chemicals are really unstable and noxious, if the car doesn't have a good suspension and the bottle is rolling around or vibrating, then the bottle can definitely explode. Looks like the spare may have acted like a gun barrel and forced the explosion upward. Thats just my guess anyway.

My guess is one of those little helium canisters you can buy at a party store ruptured or blew a safety valve. There were no flames, it seemed more like steam than smoke, and some party decorations seemed to blast out through that back windshield. Also, a car like that probably didn't have a NOS system or air-ride suspension.

Almost looks like a the spare tire slipped off the rim inside the car, then again there's a secondary 'explosion' after the tire leaves the car. My guess, rolling meth lab asploded. or a NO2 tank let go.

Considering the huge blast of smoke with no sign of flames or combustion, my guess is he was carrying a pressurized tank of some kind.

I got no clue...

@ledgehead: Might be. It would be an entire rocket to have the re-entry streamer on it though, and a BIG rocket to boot!
(Some rockets have a streamer in place of a parachute, especially the ones that go really high, eh?)

It would explain the tire blasting out & yet the car's passengers surviving...
