crunches and sit ups are hell for your spinal cord. just tighten the core when your deadlifting/ bent over rows etc etc. they will grow, and you won't feck yer back. And no a sixpack isn't about the muscles it's about low fat percentage (as Keyh mentioned) and you burn fat much more effectivly by hitting the back or thigh muscles..

hmm, the crunches thing puzzles me too. obviously you can target a particular area of "fat", but you can exercise the muscles there, and isn't that what a six pack is about?

Sure, but:

1) There are better core exercises than crunches

2) A person that is not under 10% body fat (or ~14% for women) won't be able to get a six pack with a million crunches

Just doing crunches won't get you anywhere. You have to eat right, and keep below a certain body fat percentage.

I got 6 pack abs from crunches, but what they were showing were sit-ups.
