Somebody needs to GIF that with the 'deal with it' sunglasses thing. Crossing the finishing line like a mellow boss.

@chalket,
That was really good! As far as I'm concerned, his attitude deserves that medal. Good for him!

Gerry is right. Usually the competition is about who is fastest. This time it was about who could stay upright, also never thought that the tortoise and the hare would be relevant at the Olympics.

Crashes happen in short track. At the time he was ranked 8th and admitted that he was hanging back in hopes that something would happen.

That was his strategy and it paid off.

@chalket,
Sometimes, yeah. If you're mountain climbing and your whole team has reached a ledge that you haven't gotten to when it collapses, dropping all the others to their deaths, you're still better off than all of them. If you leave the house late and are, therefore, NOT in the car crushed by the runaway garbage truck, that's good for you.
The other skaters didn't win because they failed to remain on their skates. The Australian won. Granted it was by the fault of others more than by his own skill but that's often the way the proverbial ball bounces. How often has a figure skater done an amazing job except for one slip that lost him/her the gold? Essentially the same thing.

Excuse me, Gerry and broiz, but the ONLY reason he kept on his feet is because he was so far behind the other 4 skaters when they all fell as a group. If he had been even close to keeping up with them he would have fallen too. Survival of the unfittest?

@g3n3r1k,
It's a competition of who skates better. You're not skating well if you're sliding on your a$$, are you?

He won because he had the skill to stay on his feet when others didn't.

I wouldn't say he won because everyone in front of him fell. He won because he's the only one who managed NOT to fall. Same thing viewed differently, yes, but he earned the win by staying upright when no one else could; important in skating.
