It is an Awsome movie (the 1971, I don't know if the remake will even be watchable, most are not, with the exception of Carpenters The Thing which was better than the Walking Carrot in the origional ((the original was good but the Polymorph was a better thing))

Any attempt to "Unplug" it would be met with immediate action (Ie one or more cities would be nuked)

@ Onoffonoffon: "Couldn't they just unplug it?"

A good question. No, they could not because Colossus is located deep beneath a mountain with multiple redundant power sources (it was conceived as a weapon of the Cold War, so it was built to withstand nuclear attack). If humans made any attempt to disable it, Colossus would respond by threatening to destroy a randomly selected city with the weapons that were in its control.

It's an awesome book. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it.

One correction: The author's name is D.F. Jones, not D.E. Jones, as I had it in an earlier post.

"A prequel is a movie that is made after the first movie but set in an earlier time frame."

I know, it was just that by your post it looked like you thought this was an actual prequel.
Oh well, like you said "Misuse of words are confusing."

Monster0 - that wouldn't be a prequel then it would be "inspired by" or just the first in a series of films. Misuse of words is confusing.

A prequel is a movie that is made after the first movie but set in an earlier time frame.

Gotta love 70's science-fiction movies.

ZigRat, glad you mentioned the Outer Limits episode, "The Soldier." It was written by Harlan Ellison.

Also Apparently a Remake is being made that establishes a firm tie between Colossus, Guardian and Sky Net so the remake will really be a Terminator prequel.

@ Monsterzero: So glad to find I'm not the only one who loved D.E. Jones's book! It was one of the best reads of my adolescence and had a lasting effect on me.

in this trailer they took the 1971 Film Colossus and redubed the music score with Terminator to help point out the closeness of the plots of the movies. The change in music fits rather well btw.
The Terminator was also based in part on the outerlimits episode "The Soldier"

Gerry:
I think he means prequel as in this movie was made first in the 70s, thus giving the writers of the terminater the idea for a computer takover.
By the way, Colosus was a fantastic piece of science fiction.

No thank you. HAs there ever been a prequel that didn't suck? Like the prequels to these films

Exorcist
Dumb & Dumber
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
The Flintstones
Silence Of The Lambs {2 bad prequels}
The Mummy
Star Wars {3 shameful prequels}
Van Wilder {Yeah, there was a prequel so aweful the actors in it run in shame when it's mentioned}

and the king of all sucky prequels
ALIEN prequel Prometheus
