Squidbush, Use TSA approved locks,(they have a logo) I travel every other week and have been using them and TSA even locks my bags after rummaging trough them. I know they checked them because they leave a note inside.
Lauriloo, You are lucky before I started using locks I had lot of things stolen, once just a pair of jeans at first I thought I had forgot to pack them. Not just in the airport you should lock your bags at the hotel too.

I never lock mine but I believe you are allowed to use a TSA-approved lock on luggage. I fly at least 8 trips a year and have never had anything taken (don't check anything of huge value anyway so it's not an issue).

That's because you can't lock cases anymore if you are flying. They WILL break the lock if your bag is chosen for random checks. Just another example of the wonderful world we live in today here in the US. :P
