Very impressed with Runemang and Draculya's responses. We may actually have a couple good parents here! Who woulda thunk it?

If a wife gives a BJ when you do something right instead of scolding you when you screw up, marriages would be a lot happier and florists would do roaring business.

i.e. when enthusiasm is important, use positive feedback.

HOWEVER, when danger is involved and aversion is required, use negative feedback.

HAHAHA! I can't believe they posted that description. I didn't even mean to leave that in the description. Oh well...I will gladly take credit for the troll.

I suggested the post, and left a comment for the mods about their reluctance to moderate.
I suppose I was right...Or they are trying to make some point.

OH Canada! You don't suck. Maybe some day you may become nearly as great as America.

WIthout even watching the vid, I can say from parental experience that it depends on the person. It's very independent. My daughter responds very well to about 80/20 rewards/punishment. My son - neither. He responds better to personal pride, taking charge (basically you put him in charge and make it his idea. lol.)

As with everything in life, positive/negative feedback is a BALANCE. Look at Kanye West. All those yes-men telling him how great he is made him believe it and just look at his behavior now.

But you can't always kick a dog either. BALANCE. Shame when you do wrong. Praise when you improve. I'm surprised it took a video THAT LONG to express such a simple, and obvious concept.

maybe people that suck, get negative feedback. The following day, they still suck. If you kick ass at a thing, and get positive feedback, you will continue to kick ass.(athletes with more testosterone are better athletes)

@ 5Cats: Best description of an A-10 I've heard: It's a plane built around a gun. Truer words never spoken. The designers even went to the trouble of offsetting the nose landing gear so that the gun's firing barrel would be in the exact centerline of the plane.

@SilverFang: He flips a Canadian coin, eh?

@Squrlz4Sale: I didn't think Israel had them, good point! It's probably just the first model aircraft he found nearby...

The A-10 has proven itself beyond doubt: It's extremely good at what it's designed to do: destroy stuff on the ground!

@turdburnlar I have to ask, what does this video have to do with Canada? "Canada sux....eh?" Why?

Positive feedback works pretty darn well when training a puppy- but then, dogs are a bit smarter than most humans... Thank you Public Education.

OK, call me a nerd, but I have to make this observation: The Israeli Air Force has never flown A-10s, nor is the A-10 a fighter. It's a close air support (CAS) jet. I love A-10s, in case you haven't guessed. I shed an invisible tear every time I hear on the news that one's crashed. They threw away the mold on those babies.

That was interesting. I started getting dubious but then it picked up again.

Speed cameras? Don't get me started.

Some good ideas here! "Regression to the mean" is indeed a fact! But as he said: control groups!
>>Another thing is that long-term trends don't just suddenly "regress" eh? They have a different "mean" than similar things.
>>Like Red Light Cameras: A dangerous intersection will likely remain dangerous, it's not just random chance.

@bordo: You are 100% correct! The ONLY thing those cameras do is generate MONEY for the government. Our city cops REFUSE to release long term "safety" results. Why? Because accidents went UP in the red-light districts! (People mashing on their brakes will do that!!)

Canada = Canadian coin he flips

Another thing he doesn't mention: Risk-taking:
If you're praised? You're more likely to take more risks next time. If punished? Less risks. Makes perfect sense, yes?

i started tuning out at 2:35. see one thing i really dislike is finding a post on an internet site called i-am-bored that makes me even more bored than when i first came to the site. im not saying that you will find this post boring, im just saying that i did and i didnt like it. you can disagree with me all you want, but right this moment you are reading my comment so shut up and pay attention. you can write out your own stupid, lame, not-as-good-as-mine comment after you have finished wasting time reading my long meaningless comment. this video is like 7 minutes long, and all the guy is doing is trying to teach me something, that didnt work in highschool and it wont work now! if some one does something good ill praise them for it, if someone upsets me ill yell at them if i want to. why is he saying canada sux? is it supposed to be negative feedback? drat you turdburglar, i thought we were buddies! insulting my country? what have i ever said about your country? oh right, never mind.

Red light cameras always accomplish their real objective: raising revenue. Actually, the accident rate at red light camera intersections goes up, mainly rear enders.
