We lost a firefighter around here in a crappy roadhouse bar with no one inside. If I were a fire chief, I would have a policy that no one under any circumstances is to enter a burning building unless they are certain that there are people inside in need of rescue. Anyone who violated this rule would be fired immediately.
Property is not worth dying for.

I grew up two blocks away from a fire station. When we were kids, we could walk in there anytime and the guys were always friendly to us.

Firefighters, damn. I'm a teacher and every now and then there is a fire alarm going off and fire engines showing up and I mean no disrespect to my female colleagues, who are highly professional people who will not stand for objectification, but they are seriously checking out and flirting with the firefighters.
I've mentioned it to close female friends and they say it's a special case. Firefighters are just hot.
