So that where the idea for the human centipede came from.

This gave me nightmares as a child. I love this classic stuff though.

It's put together like a Fleisher cartoon, a sight gag ever few seconds.

Ah, yes, a classic bit of cartooning. One of my favorites.

"Holy crap what were our grandparents smoking?"

Marijuana. It was legal until 1937.

If this were done today, it would be in color, and the skeletons would have bits of putrid, rotting flesh hanging from their bones dripping blood and pus while they screamed in tortured anguish.

Oh my god! I have been looking for this for YEARS! I saw it with my sister when she was just a baby and she couldn't stop laughing. I've been searching for it since but for some reason couldn't find it.

Pretty tame compared to the stuff that's used to scare kids now.

Today, you have cartoons/anime that may be more graphic than the old ones. They may tackle the genre of horror more seriously. But when it comes to creating creepy moods, nothing beats the old cartoons. And that's because of the atmosphere they created, especially the shadowy backgrounds and the great music.

And speaking of music, notice the music credit on this skeleton cartoon: Carl Stalling, the genius behind so many Bugs Bunny/Warner Brothers classics.
