If you look at the address of this one you'll see it's from McDonalds UK menu right off their webpage. Now doesn't that look exactly like the one in the article?

@Taylor.. in the EU it does. There are specific laws to stop them misadvertising products like this. Plus there is an entire agency in the UK whose sole job is to check adverts for things like this.

@Thonious

While what you state is true, the law doesn't state that the product can't be modified or presented in a certain way for advertising purposes... As seen in milk ads where they add soap to make it bubbly on top, or in Pizza ads where the SCREW THE PIZZA TO THE TABLE...

At the local Farmer's Market they do a ice cream scooper of mashed potatoes. The plop it in a cup, then put pork bbq on it, then more mashed potatoes and on top of the beef bbq. Looks like a layered sundae in a cup but it's a really great way to eat bbq without making a mess.

-If you stack your burger on a ring of toothpicks, you can get maximum height out of a thin product.
-Turkeys are not cooked, but painted with a browning product. A heat gun aimed at one breast provides a cooked area from which a juicy slice can be carved for the photo.

@Jake_Justice: A highly underrated movie!

It's not perfect, of course, but it has several "great moments"

LemonCurry, McDonald's burgers are an excellent example. They use real product prepared with special care, as described above.

In the US, the law is pretty simple. The product you are advertising has to be the real thing used in the pictures.

now this can't be true, can it? i don't want to state the obvious, but mcdonalds advertisements look nothing like the real thing. or are they soaked in formaldehyde?

why so complicated? in japan you just buy the plastic version, nothing melting, looks great, lasts forever.

In the US, the law is pretty simple. The product you are advertising has to be the real thing used in the pictures; those things which are incidental do not. For example, if you are selling ice-cream syrup, the ice cream doesn't have to be real ice-cream, but the syrup does have to be the real product, hence the mashed-potato ice-cream.
