That girl in the glasses was really cute. I love her bubbly personality.

Well at least the Russians have one thing in common with most of America, we hate rednecks too!

"Now go get Uncle Vanya from Vornoezh, the Alabama of Russia."

Damnit. We have to figure out how to change the way of thinking here.

Out of all the states in the south, Alabama is not the most redneck.

I'd say, from least to most redneck, it would be:

Peninsula of Florida
North Carolina
Georgia
Kentucky
Alabama
Tennessee
Texas
Louisiana
South Carolina
Arkansas
Mississippi
Panhandle of Florida

People are the same the world over.

It is only because of politics and religion that everything is f*cked up.

Who cares what they think? They are sore loosers.

"Boo hoo, we lost the cold war, and now our country sucks."

Take your complaints and start "Putin" them where the sun don't shine.

carmium: She was 100% spot on about the apples. Have you ever been to an orchard and eaten a ripe apple picked right off of an apple tree? I have and let me tell you, the apple you're eating from the grocery store has no taste in comparison.

nubblins: Yes, it's probably because your from the Midwest - no insult intended. I've lived in a few major cities and sex shops are pretty common so I don't personally know anyone who would be shocked at seeing a sex shop with a graphical display. I'm sure the same would apply to someone in another country - people not from the city are not used to seeing such things and so it seems odd to them.

she is right about our food tasting plastic! We put up with the most horrible stuff. Our wonderbread vs Russian black bread, for instance. Our highly processed meats and cheeses, blahhhh

@carmium No..I only agree about the meat part of what she was saying. Meat here has taste but the meat you purchase in the store (especially the leaner cuts) are so bland. I find this is because of how the cattle/poultry is raised. Less activity/no room to move around and grain feeding only leads to dull meat.

In my travels abroad, I noticed how much more prude the average American is. I stepped off the plane in Munich to a sex shop in the Airport. There was a very graphic window display. I was rather shocked...

Though I've never been to New York or LA, so, maybe it's just because I'm sheltered and from a small town. haha.

Piperfawn,
can't see "curbs" or "carbs" ,
and my Mac (five year old with Safari) slows down on gifs,
but for the rest, no problem, here in Luxemburg.
(Well, the clips starting with advertisements, i willingly stop them)

piperfawn: I can't view "coubs" at all, because they demand you have the latest Adobe flash player, so they can force advertisements onto you.

I think these Russians would've had a better experience had they journeyed out of the big cities, into the smaller towns and suburbs.

Well, food really stood out for me while traveling abroad.

The first thing I realized was US food is very salty compared to that of other countries.

Second, what I missed about home was the prevalence of refrigerated trucking.

Next, I didn't realize ahead of time, each chain restaurant tailors it's menu to the country it's in. In Mexico, Domino's pizza came with guacamole on the side and McD's, one has to request they not put it on a Big Mac.

I was at one place having a celebration, they served fresh beef... as in "it appeared the butchered the cow in house and served it, including the snout, whiskers and all."
Someone said "Look there, Code!!" and ate it before I could focus on it...

McT: I think that's highly subjective and dubious. How do you make meat that "has no taste"? Or apples? Some things like beefsteak tomatoes can be very bland, but that's because they are hybridized only for even color and roundness; I don't buy them. But have you tried some of the newer apples out there? They're excellent!
I think people see things in a big supermarket under fluorescent lights, and *decide* the produce isn't going to be any good. The farmers' markets may be cuter, but mostly, I find they're just more expensive.

Now go get Uncle Vanya from Vornoezh, the Alabama of Russia. He'll have a different opinion than these educated 20 somethings.

As for the fake food stuff - this is something I never understand, America is the most diverse country in pretty much all things. This means you'll have both super fake hamburgers at McDonalds and other places, but you'll also have without a doubt the highest quality burgers in the world at places like the Spotted Pig in NYC. I have a wet dream every time I remember that glorious meal.

The last girl lived there and didn't bother learning the language? What is she, English?
