The fact that UK has opted out is not so much a political points-scoring exercise against Cameron, as parliamentary democracy in action.
The peoples of the UK who are represented by their elected members of parliament have sensibly weighed up the situation and come to the conclusion that it would be foolish to enter into another expensive waste of life and property.
Don't ask me what the answer is; if I knew, then they would put me in charge.
The killing of innocents will continue, but without the UK involved, the numbers killed will be less.

Another good illustration of why the US and allies should not get into this mess. Thankfully the UK seems to have returned to their senses.

We should be acting as clandestine agents provocateurs. Just give enough covert aid in the way of arms and intelligence to the losing side to keep them in the fight indefinitely. We could use psyops to feed their hate for each other till they totally exterminate themselves.

We must admit that we made the classic blunder in 2001:
Got into a land war in Asia.

His Excellency, the most reverend Bishop Taylor {my best friend, a catholic bishop} told me "Shoot'em all, let God sort'em out."

Sage advice indeed.

Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third...

Yeah, that about sums it up!

Now Obama has REALLY painted himself into a corner! Even the MSM cannot help him, since they are divided too!

Sweet sweet shadenfreud!

How do you do italics on here?

@LordJim: You cannot, really. But you can "quote" in square brackets: []
(quote) italics words here (/quote)
But square, not round brackets

Carmium - I'm so glad a non-American understands exactly the situation we so often seem to be in. There is no winning.

Do you really think old Al Qaeda has a problem killing civies in order to sucker a world super power into a war with their foe?? Nothing is off limits for those maniacs.

"For a guy who preached against Iraq so much Obama seems to be doing the same but in a much worse way."

Yep, looks like both our countries voted in even bigger lying mean persons than we usually do.

Now bear in mind I don't associate Americans with the US Government. Much in the same way I wouldn't want people saying that I am the Australian Government because that'd just be insulting.

If we do intervene and hit the nerve agent site it will most likely leave about 20% to 30% in functional form and in the process release it which the rebels/AL-Q will then scapegoat us for!

For a guy who preached against Iraq so much Obama seems to be doing the same but in a much worse way.

Kegomatix - who is calling for the US to intervene? NOBODY!
There are rallies in lots of cities at the moment protesting intervention. The Syrian government wasn't involved in the chemical attacks. Polls say that most Syrians are happy with their government - secular, good healthcare, no national debt... Extremist rebels, sponsored by rich oil families with investments in the new gas lines, and many more, including the US government who has sold weapons to Qatar and Turkey who have then sold onto the rebels.
I find it odd that anyone would support it. Perhaps it's the attitude that Syria is a dump full of poor people wearing turbans - at least that's what the news shows you.
Unfortunately it's inaccurate.

Those countries are in a state of perpetual tribal warfare, the only thing that even partialy unites them is they hate Israel and the US and anyone else who is non a member of Islam. Take US and Israel out of the situation then you have nothing but cilial war and unrest as you are seeing currently in Egypt. Although It's unethical for the US to back ruthless dictators like Sadam, thoser type of leaders are the only oneswho can control the population.

The US is in a lose/lose situation across the board. The world is looking to the US to take action for the war crimes, but as soon as a missile flies people will be crying "war mongers." Then there is the fact that if we help either side, it is still pretty much helping our enemies. No victory can be had here, so the best idea is to sit it out, in my opinion. We can't afford it anyway.

I don't envy the US government right now. You have all these poor people in Syria who thought they could have their own Arab Spring and toss their leader, only to get pasted and end up crying for help to America. Yet you know the moment the cruise missiles fly, there will be stories of a kid being killed in a daycare next to an arms dump and the whole Arab world will be chanting "death to America." There's no winning.
