Nagasaki And Hiroshima should have been "poked"

wow, how low have we sunk that nowadays history needs to be explained in facebook terms for people to become interested in it. things like the nuclear bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki definitely don't make me chuckle.

That's funny Zira, 'cause by the end of the war from what I understand the Japanese nationalists were in such a fury over NOT surrendering that they virtually locked the emperor away, nearly preventing him from announcing the inception of peace which he desperately wanted to secure. It's a fascinating story - the nationalist movement had a fire all its own. Divinity be damned.

I really enjoyed this, but I normally don't get into these s"ocial media-esque" posts. (I seriously couldn't think of a better way to say that.)

QueenZira: the rule of shogunate ended with the Meiji restoration. You missed a century.

This one is better than the previous one...
Are all FaceBook timelines out of order? Things happen in 1945 and then it's 1943 again... Or I just don't know how they work things?

Japan did indeed want to end the war with America! But the USA was having none of that. Japan got to keep their Emperor (there were 4 'conditions' iirc, none of them important) when they surrendered.
@QueenZira = correct!

True, disabusing the Japanese that their Emperor was a divine being would vastly reduce the ultra nationalism that helped fuel the war. A European comparison would be allied forces forcing the Germans to rewrite their national anthem from "Deuchland Deuchland uber alles" (Germany Germany over all) to something less strident and aggressive in the future.

But ya it's still there as a pointless figure head wasting peoples time and money for no purpose like some other places....

@Queen

Hirohito was made under the terms to publicly state to all of Japan he was not a incarnate divinity.

Oh no, we let them keep Emperor Hirohito Tojo, after all the Emperor is just there for show anyway. It's the generals who are really in charge of the whole war making thing and the real government (been that way since the Shoguns) it was his brother General Hideki Tojo we wanted, and we got him.

"i heard that the Japs did surrender before Hiroshima."

From what I've read, they considered surrendering after they got their a$$es handed to them at the Battle of Midway, which is considered the turning point of the war in the Pacific. The reason they didn't was because the Allies wouldn't accept anything less than unconditional surrender.

Just a rumor besides UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER means we set the conditions. Taking away their emperor showed them he was not godlike and they'd lost. It also showed the people they could run things without royalty...imagine if some places in Europe could catch on to that concept.....

Hah, absolutely hitlarius. i heard that the Japs did surrender before Hiroshima. They only asked too keep their emperor.
Not good enough, us wanted to get one of their dogs in power, like always.
But then again, history is different in each nation so it seems yes indeed.
