So we measure intelligence by the ability to memorize and then forget everything a couple of years later? We have an educational system that is a competition for the best grade, with no actual focus on enriching the kids.

An idiot like Obama got elected twice because he's less of an idiot than the candidates selected by the Republican Party.

I think endeavor is misspelled in the spelling part.

I guess it goes without saying, but the vast majority of eighth graders today could not pass this.

There is hardly a high-schooler in America that could pass that. And that is why an idiot like Obama can get elected twice.

pretty smug, aren't ya?

I am Dutch as well and I'm guessing that English is actually your 2nd language and you happen to speak German and French as well.

And of course this should be easy for someone who is 18-29... it's made for an eightgrader (in 1912 mind you, but an eightgrader nevertheless).

I first saw 'eneeavor' in the spelling section. A quick googling of the word brought the following:

Education to the 8th grade was a rather normal attainment. Not universal, but not exceptional either. My own farm-raised North Dakota Grandpa from the 1920's only completed until the 8th grade. But you also have to take into account that 8th grade then doesn't translate to 8th grade now.

Point is - kids are dumb today for a reason. Even with smaller class sizes.

Yeah I see people post these things from time to time. What you have to remember is the small percentage of people that actually went to school, much less made it to the 8th grade.

This was also a time when going to school was far less common. It was usually reserved for the richest/brightest. School also wasn't limited to 8 hours a day five days a week, it was more like 12 hours a day every day all year long.

on History #2 theres not enough room to sketch anyone. In CG The US is NOt a democracy (read the Federalist Papers by Hamelton Madison And Jay) The US is a political Ollogarchy.

Numerous ways to answer several of those questions these days.

For instance one could use a Venn diagram to describe the "cheerful giver" question.
