Study Proves Rich People Are Assholes

I can talk about research design all damn day for that matter, chalket. It is what I do as part of my living. These studies are biased, for many different reasons.

I consider myself a Christian. So, if I conducted a study finding that Christian prayer effectively alleviated 90% of depression and anxiety would it be meaningful? Hell no. Because it would be biased as all get out. If that study was conducted with an atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, and Pagan as fellow researchers, it might raise a few eyebrows.

However, when liberals conduct research that furthers the agenda of "everybody that is rich is an a$$hole!" because they don't like the voting habits of rich people; it hardly is considered science. Berkley science is not really considered science, much like creationism is really considered science. You can call them both "science" or "scientific" all day. It simply doesn't make it so.

For example, in the "monopoly" game. It leaves out a lot of information. How are you "generous" in monopoly? You buy, sell, and trade. That is it. It is a game of capitalism; nothing more, nothing less. How do you measure people being more or less generous in a game that doesn't allow you to give anything? (spoiler: you don't.)

The notion of pretzel eating is stupid. People snack more when they are successful in games. If they are loosing, they are concentrating more. it has nothing to do with entitlement.

"Give me back 140, I am going to buy Mediterranean Avenue." is not exactly "barking orders" either. It is a statement of fact.

The whole "science" of this, and other, studies are designed to make a point. So what if they smudge the lines of a few things on the way, right?

MrOrange - The whole point is with these studies is that the bulk of wealthy people are conservative. Portray them as "not generous, nice, etc etc." ... sure liberals might also be wealthy, but these studies are designed to make a point; not be objective.

@LiquidGlass

BMW drivers are often rich. Perhaps they aren't multi-millionaires, but they're extremely rich compared to the rest of the world.

Also, you're wrong there - Becoming wealthy is almost always luck. Most rich are born into the wealth, which is unrelated to their work (unless they jumped out of their mother mid-birth and found the nearest rich womb). Then, the ones who earned their money still got lucky - You'd have to be incredibly naive to think that a guy who goes from rags to riches worked any harder than a a highly dedicated factory worker simply trying to make ends meet. Even Bill Gates, who became the world's top billionaire, became such out of monopolies and pure luck with meeting the right shareholders.

And yet everyone wants to be one of them. But really, I wonder if you could say this about any other group. Let's say....Muslims.

"Watch out! Liberal scientists that conducted research at the most liberal university happened to find something that makes conservatives look bad. Breaking news there! Has to be the most honest and scientific study ever!"

Objectivity isn't your strong point is it? The researches cleary state that these results are the same for any political orientation. and that it has to do with percieved wealth, now you can argue wether it's wealth or status. that would be an intresting point. not being partisan when there is no need for it.

I'm not surprised at this study and the fact the rich folks are jerks. As far as I'm concerned, we still live in a medevial world that hasn't changed in the last couple thousand years. It wouldn't take much with the loss of electricity and gas to plunge us back into the dark ages.

Democracy. Wealth. What a joke. No doubt if we had the power or leverage over people in a way we could control them. We'd be arseholes too - especially towards uneducated people who feel they can criticize the government without first having learned how the system even works.

On second thought, why doesn't the head of this department study the people who give the funding to his studies...after all they are all A@@holes according to him.

Driving a BMW doesn't make you rich, having a driver or driving a Ferrarri would be a more fair test.

Given that the game is rigged of course people feed off of positive feedback and become roostery, glad they proved a known thing.

But he's literally stating that wealthy people are lucky somehow and that it has nothing to do with themselves or their own hard work in real life. Which proves to me he's as broke as a joke himself. Furthermore if he's so against it lets see how much he's donated of his salary to charity.

Save for some trust fund babies (which usually end up losing it all anyway) most millionaires are self made and their wealth is a directly attributed to their hard work and skills. To call a poor or rich person a flip of the coin is an ignorant statement.

"people who give are happier and live longer lives" Thanks for 'proving' a point clearly shown by Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone so many years ago, douchebag.

That's a poo load of rich people driving in a big group! Or did I miss something?
@3:47
You rolled again because you got doubles, not because you're rich. Dafuq?

"drat yeah you do! MUAHAHA!!!"

Almost as if he was asking the banker for some money? And you desperately want to prove a point?

This guy thinks the bozos that still drive themselves around our society are bad? Then image the ones with hundreds of millions of dollars stored away just to make them feel secure.

Well the top 1% runs the country and look at the state of it. I'd say this is right on track. But we already knew this.

I'll admit that there is a correlation between income, net worth, and the kind of car you drive. That being said, I personally know people who make $15/hr., live in $500/mo. apartments, and drive Beemers. I also know multimillionaires who live in modest houses and drive beaters. I wonder if the people who are driving like @$$holes are truly rich or just poser pricks.

so its basically the fundamental attribution error at work. also, some rich people are rich cause they dont spend money on cars, and some cars people think are expensive are dirt cheap. are rich people non-nice individuals? sure, but at the same time i've never seen the head line 'millionaire arrested for apple picking'.
