Isn't a worker, you know, EMPLOYED?

CreamK-"I do find it odd that US don't have any paid leave for having a kid."

Why would you get paid for not working? Some companies do. It's a perk.

Ozmose-"The US has been topping the charts in infant mortality for some time now."

Do a little research and you'll find the majority of the difference is because of the different ways countries define a 'mortality'.

In the US, ANY baby born breathing that dies is considered a mortality.
In some countries, premature babies born alive but later die are considered 'miscarriages'.
Some countries consider a baby who dies in the first 24 hours as 'stillbirths'.
France, Czech Republic, Ireland, Netherlands and Poland do not report any live births of babies under 500 grams or 22 weeks of gestation (which tend to have high mortality rates).
For Russia and Soviet Union, it's 1,000 grams or 28 weeks.

Is there specific legislation for smoking in schools, or is it referring to the wider encompassing smoking ban within the work place?. Notice the spin between the two.

That's like showing a graph where it's illegal to shoot a certain type of can in a certain manner, not mentioning that the key difference is whether the ownership of the gun itself is legal.

The US has been topping the charts in infant mortality for some time now. Why is this a surprise to some people?

Not sure where there getting their fact but I wouldn't trust them cause they're wrong!

You can't smoke in US schools!

My cousin a man got like 8 weeks paid maternity leave when he had a child.

Stopped reading after that.

There are mistakes in the european department. So who knows how accurate it is.

Fun graph however.

This is inaccurate. I know my company provides paid maternity leave for both mothers and fathers. I think its pretty standard here in the U.S.

I do find it odd that US don't have any paid leave for having a kid. Soon you got no right for abortion and you can't miss a day at work? Looks like you are the most backwards country of the western world... women, go back to the stove and make me a sandwich. What's next, you can beat them to submission?

Go Finland.

Only thing i could find odd was that disabled kids have no constitutional guarantee for education.. That's cause everybody is guaranteed education, no matter what your situation is. No need to specifically make a clause in the constitution. Disabled kids get a personal assistant, as do anyone else who have major difficulties in learning.

Is smoking banned in school in the USA?

Yes.

No law on the books is irrelevant. Just another case of a useless law. There is not one school in this whole country where anyone can bring a sprig of tobacco.

I live in 'merica and I will pick two of these for BS. First the US department of labor requires equal opportunity, including ethnicity. Children with disability’s are guaranteed their own personal aid where I live in the Midwest. This was paid for by the state. I am sure this is not all states, but I saw it first hand in Iowa. Also they put the threshold at $10 a day for unemployed, frankly that is an awful small amount, super cheap rent is around $300.00 a month. Respectable rent is around $1000.00.What it all comes down to is the US government has little control over the general population, and leaves a lot of the responsibility to local governments. Realistically the USA is about the same size as Europe in land mass and GDP. So it is a fair comparison of all the different countries in Europe with their different customs and laws, and US states with their different customs and laws. For example the state of California has roughly the same GDP as Italy and populati

Yeah, the kids in those yellow and orange countries are SOOOOOOOO much better off than the kids in that big mean red country.

Apparently unless the government forces other people to pay you for not working, your kids are doomed...DOOMED I tells ya!

So to sum up America, you've got the highest drinking age and access to clean water.

A lot is vague and ignores plenty of details in the law. For example, in Switzerland you can buy "light" drink from 16, drinks like beer, but you can only buy things like Vodka from 18+.

Yeah, that's more than a bit misleading.

Drinking age: it's up to the states and some are 18 while others are 21.

There may not be "constitutional" provisions but there are laws for/against a lot of those things.

Do we really need to pass a law saying smoking in schools is illegal? This is controlled by the districts and to no small extent the state and federal government vie funding, not to mention the parental outcries ... do we really need a law to spell it out when it's already like kicking a puppy in a nunnery?

A lot of it is based on constitutional law when there are other laws that do the same job.
