5cats, you would be surprised how quickly an octopus can do this, I had a pet Bali Dwarf and she could flip into weird shapes instantly, I still have no idea what half of them were, we had polka dot disc, lumpy brown blob, pure white with arms stretched (maybe a starfish), her skin texture changed with each one.

This .gif is reversed, so yeah, this happening this fast isn't really possible. Some Octopi DO contort their skin for better camouflage, it's impressive, eh?

Land Octopi are just better at disguising themselves. That and they typically disguise themselves as blurry big feet and aliens to scare off predators.
