Odd: I still have 10 unanswered questions...

I guess the explanation is: We Don't Know! (yet)

"why is it actually accelerating?"

The current theory is that it is being pushed. However, I have my own theory:

Outside of the Universe is nothing. It is devoid of all matter. When the Big Bang occurred, it was the fracturing of another dimension, releasing matter into this one. The reason matter is speeding up is simply because it is being pulled into the empty areas.

Well... there is a lot more to it than that, but that boils it all down to a simple version of my theory.

The universe isn't flat like a pancake. It's flat like leftover beer. I hate conflations.

The graphic showed a flat planed universe. You can't have it all ways. And if there was a big bang, surely it would be flying out in all directions. And if if it was going to collapse in on itself, why is it actually accelerating as it flies apart? And, most importantly, why do the Yanks say math when there is clearly more than one?

@Quackor when someone describes the universe as 'flat', they are describing the mathematics, not a plane. When describing things like the universe(s), quantum physics and anything where one of the factors is close to infinity (e.g. big bang and black holes) the math gets really weird and conventional language struggles to describe the phenomena predicted by it. It is effectively transcendental to perhaps even the keenest of minds.

Mammalian evolution: There's more to scientific evidence than bones in the stones.

FTL Travel: When this occurs:

(1) Laws of physics relating to velocity do not apply; and/or
(2) Space-time is non-linear; and/or
(3) Time in the conventional sense does not apply at all

Hence, comparing FTL to the speed of light is not strictly applicable except from the PoV of an external observer.

@Tupinambis: Yes that is correct. Whether it will work or not is debatable, but the maths are somewhat sound.

Did I read that correctly? 10x the speed of light? Someone needs to be shot.
