Why has it taken 8 years? o.O

Because designing and building a huge skyscraper is complex. The actual tower construction wasn't started till 2008 because they had to get the ground/foundation right.

Knowing IAB I came here expecting an argument on the causes of 9/11. Nope. It's on the definition of the word "Tower". IAB never ceases to surprise me.

Okay I screwed that up. The first pic in my post is called a MAST. It isn't a tower. Towers are taller than they are wide, and do not use wires or lines to hold them up.

The Eiffel Tower is a tower. If it were solid and housed people though, it would be a building, or skyscraper.

Okay people. THIS IS A TOWER!

THIS IS A TOWER!

THIS IS A BUILDING! (including the nearly 200 foot TOWER on it's roof)

This BUILDING, is called a TOWER for ceremonial purposes only. Those things on it's roof are called TOWERS and they count in the total height.

Moving on......

@honkeylips

"A building can be a tower but a tower can't be a building."

So if you've got a building, and it's a tower, how can it be a building if it's a tower, if a tower can't be a building, even though this building is a tower? Hypothetically of course.

@Geogypsy The technical definition of a building states that it has to have at least 50% functional space. A building can be a tower but a tower can't be a building.

@honkeylips I dunno, are you one of those people who doesn't realize that a tower is either a tall, freestanding BUILDING or an appendage of a larger construction? Did you not call the World Trade Center Buildings the Twin TOWERs?? Are you not aware that 1 WTC is named Freedom TOWER?

What you are attempting to convey is not that the CN tower is not a building but that it not equipped with a large area of functional space.

We could say that Freedom Tower is the tallest building in North America in the category of function.

what I dont get is how those mother f uckers think building anything on what is quite literally a gravesite, is ok? should have been turned into a memorial park or something.

@Geogypsy are you one of those Canadians that can't distinguish between a building and a tower?

Ugh, top calling it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere because it isn't true.
