@patchgrabber

The number of current sitting Conservatives is not even remotely relevant. The education system as it exists is unmistakably neo-liberal. This is how it has evolved over many decades.

I'm not talking about the education system espousing liberal ideas. I'm talking about the system itself being liberal, i.e., controlled by the state with an iron fist.

Liberals are nothing if not predictable. Anytime it's a case of idiot liberals, they're not liberals, they're just plain idiots.

Please then, @ollie, explain to me how I currently live in a province with an overwhelming conservative majority in the province. Literally they have 49 seats to the NDP (left wing) having 9 seats. Yet my teacher friends constantly complain about having to teach kids in grade 7 how to do math with scraps of construction paper, or having to wipe their a$$es so as to preserve their precious little thoughts about how great these kids think they are. If you can tell me how that's the fault of liberals (btw the last non-conservative premier we had was in 2007) when they have no way to influence my provincial government's policies, and it isn't just some rant about liberal f*cktards, I'll listen.

"You obviously are too stupid to realize that an educated society is a benefit for the entire society and not just those who become educated."

You're obviously too stupid to see that what we're getting is the complete OPPOSITE of an educated society!

Sure, we may have plenty of degrees and diploms floating around, but very little actual knowledge and skill!

We have people graduating high school not knowing how to read, FFS!

@MeGrendel~ And you think that might have *something* to do with the constant defunding of education over the last 30+ years?
And the fact that up to 80% of education funding is paying for administration rather than teaching students.

You get what you pay for, so if you don't like the quality of education coming out of the system, then maybe we should pay more attention to the system.

BTW; studies have shown that it is the Republican Party that benefits from the dumbing down of society.

Why do you think it is that the majority of college student, Professors, teachers, and scientists are liberal progressives?
It is because once you have the knowledge and ability to reason, you understand how the selfish "Me First" attitude adopted by conservatives is what is dragging our country down.

When you step over the bodies of others to get ahead, all you have left behind is a country full of dead bodies.

You obviously are too stupid to realize that an educated society is a benefit for the entire society and not just those who become educated.

Are you completely incapable of seeing that a country does better if ALL of its citizens are educated as opposed to only 20%?

Your imbecilic statements only prove that even with an education it is still possible to be incredibly ignorant.

What?!? Really?!? I'm stunned at the amount of stupid that the conservatives have.

I realize that big numbers are confusing to small minds.

Right OldOllie, only those who can afford it should be educated.

Right, in the same way that only those who can afford it should have food, or housing, or medical care, dental care, or clothing, or transportation. How are these people surviving without government grocery stores, government housing, government hospitals, government doctors, government dentists, government-made clothing stores, and government-made cars?

"Huh? So only those with money get to study? And if your family is poor you only get a 4th grade education?
You just went full retard.
"

No, I didn't go full retard. You ARE full retard.

Food and clothing isn't publicly funded, it's left to the private markets. Yet even the poorest of the poor eat food and wear clothes.

Imagine a world where everyone eats the same government-provided three square meals per day. Imagine a world where everyone wears the same government-issued civilian clothing.

THAT'S the world of education we have right now, and it's damn well fu*ked.

Teachers shouldn't be expected to fix what parents create (specifically regarding self esteem, alluding to anything else).

patchgrabber-"put self-esteem above everything else. It's ridiculous."

I agree.

You know what builds self-esteem? ACCOMPLISHING SOMETHING!

Used to be making honors and high grades built self-esteem, because the kids earned it.

Now we can't praise those that make high grades, because it might hurt the self-esteem of those that didn't try as hard.

We can't keep score in sports, as the losers (oops, the 'other winners') might suffer from low self-esteem.

When the teacher asks, "what's four plus four" and little Johnnie answers 'Seven', the teacher is not allowed to tell him he is 'wrong', as that hurts his self-esteem. The teacher has to say 'Good Johnnie...you got the right answer for another question'.

Little johnnie may have a high self-esteem, but he's dumber than dirt.

@dirtysteve00...actually, it's the reality.

We're getting high school graduates that can't read, fill out a job application or balance a checkbook. BUT they know all about 'tolerance', 'diversity' and have high 'self-esteem'.

Please don't turn self-esteem building in schools into a partisan issue. It's not liberals, it's just idiots in the administration. Up here education is a provincial responsibility, and the conservative and liberal administrators of each province both put self-esteem above everything else. It's ridiculous.

Then they crash into the real world and wonder why their bosses want them to actually accomplish something and don't give damn about how good their self-esteem is.

You *do* realize that an educated population is good for the entire country don't you?
Or would you prefer something more along the lines of Niger, Angola, or Ethiopia?

They got it right. That's how the education system works.
