When your astronaut says "What the hell is that?!" you gotta know that's one obscure switch. 8-D

Many years ago I had a college professor who, on our first day of class, asked: "What event happened in the year 1066?" His point was that it is meaningless to memorize bits of information.

I said The Battle of Hastings...

He said nobody had ever been able to answer that question in the 20 years he'd been teaching and asked how or why I knew that. I had no answer.

An HBO recreation of the event.

About 3 minutes. Dave Foley as Al Bean doing most of the talking.

i meeeaan, not trying to downplay but, thats what he had to remember?

It's unlikely you or I could even learn all the poo he knew let alone remember something from a year prior whilst looking over shuttle info that wasn't even in his part of the job. Hell, I have trouble remembering the name of a song ten minutes after I've heard it even if loved it and tried. So ya, 1/1,000,000 or smaller shot to save the mission and he nailed it.

I imagine, when you have lives on the line and millions of dollars spent, knowing an unusual fix to an obscure problem is nothing short of a miracle.
