Your point is, of course, correct. The girl, however, is terribly nervous, likely inexperienced, and quite possibly more than just a bit stupid. As far as she's concerned he was sending her away when he told her "bye bye". Since that's a fairly typical way to indicate the end of a meeting (not this type, but, you know) it was reasonable for her to expect that he had just, essentially, told her to leave. He was wrong. Simple as that. |

He said 'Bye bye', a contraction of Goodbye which is a contraction of 'God be with ye' and she responded with 'Adios' which means exactly the same thing. At that moment I don't think she was trying to be smart, she really thought that was it.
She may have been really nervous and responded badly, she may have limited mental capacity or she may have fried her brains too often but the judge seemed to be enjoying himself too much. |

It is astounding to me that there are actually people out there who think this is acceptable behavior in a court room. If there's only one place that you practice a little decorum in for your whole life, make it the courthouse. |

What am I missing here? HE said "bye bye", whether he meant it as you're excused or not, it's not hard to understand that she'd take it that way. Punishing her for it is stupid. Flipping him off and telling him f' u ... yeah, that wasa ridiculously stupid on her part. |

@MacGuffin: I share your disgust for the kinds of abuses of law in the U.S. that you refer to. That said, I'm not convinced that what we see in this video is an abuse of law in any way. Rather, it's a case of a clueless (or high) young woman and a judge who didn't bother to throw her a bone.
The whole situation could (and should) have been avoided if the judge had been kind enough and wise enough to issue a "Judge Judy"-style warning: "Young lady, you may not know this but I can have you hauled off to jail for anywhere from one night to several weeks for contempt of court if you don't answer the questions and don't stop laughing like an idiot. Do we understand each other?" Most of the times I've seen a judge send someone to jail for disrespectful behavior, it's only after that kind of a stern warning was given. |
