What we had here was a lack of gun control. Everyone of these nimrods should have had their weapon pointed at their foreheads and helped keep the gene pool clean.

HG, have you ever considered the fact that people DO drive illegally. You know, DUI or without a license?

Queen Zira vs this thread reminded me of that Piers Morgan vs Ben Shapiro debate.

HolyGod-"Explain it to me. To legally drive a car you need a driver's license."

Incorrect. A driver's license is not required to purchase, own or drive a car. I was driving trucks when I was 10, legally. One of my current jeeps I've had for 12 years has never had a license plate on it, nor is one required. Why? I never drive it on public roads.

If you'll look carefully at any state's driver's manual, you will find a statement similar to: "every person must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle upon public streets and roadways."

Your statement was: 'To legally drive a car you need a driver's license'.

It has just been proven incorrect. You DO NOT need a license to drive legally. You need a license ONLY if you plan to do so on the infrastructure built with public funds for that express purpose.

This vid is yet another cogent argument for everyone should have the unimpeded right to bear arms. (And also an illustration of why far more people are killed by accident each year than in acts of self-defense.)

And there is a long history of interpretation of the 2nd that does *not* embrace paranoid insurrection as it's meaning.

On the other hand there is ALSO a long history of interpretation that treats the militia part of the 2nd as a RATIONALE not a QUALIFIER.

I ask does any gap toothed, inbred, frightened out of his bean American redneck who believes "Tyranny" is nigh have the right to shoot our own military personnel?

Well if said soldier IS plundering said redneck's land, for whatever illegitimate reason, then yes.

HG, the founders were of many minds on a lot of things and not everything they wrote is a reflection on the Constitution. And there is a long history of interpretation of the 2nd that does *not* embrace paranoid insurrection as it's meaning.

"Hint, it was not seen as a right to armed treason."

Gotta counter you there.

No you misunderstand me. I ask does any gap toothed, inbred, frightened out of his bean American redneck who believes "Tyranny" is nigh have the right to shoot our own military personnel?

Because when you get right down to it this is what every mouth breather really means when they talk about "Tyranny," the tyranny of his own government.

I'll try again, does the aforementioned redneck have the right to shoot and kill uniformed US regular military?

Incidentally, how do *you* feel about shooting uniformed American regular army? Inquiring minds wanna know.

Just ask...
Chechnyans (best example), IRA (second best),
PLO, Al Qaeda affiliates, Iraqi and Afghani insurgents, Vietcong, Taureg fighters and other Malian insurgents.

The last 20 years of horrifically stupid foreign policy (and some episodes within the cold war) has demonstrated that even loose knit and unorganized militia cells can pose major challenges for any professional army.

you're gonna have to do better than a gun fetishist web site sweetie.

Actually this was a website that suggested enforcing current gun control we already have now, so no not the loons you'd expect from Wayne LaPierre.

[quote">tells me you don't have a clue how that amendment has been interpreted through our history. Hint, it was not seen as a right to armed treason.[/quote">

That statement better describes yourself actually

@technophebe

You own a gun, you accept the risks same thing goes when you don't. It also does not follow that disarming otherwise law-abiding citizenry as a whole will make society overall safer. Likewise it has been demonstrated that gun ownership provides a significant deterrent effect against crime. Thus it could decrease the odds of attacking your home while not affecting those of injury or death within it.

The fact that you even bring up the bugf%ck crazy argument that the framers wanted people shooting at *them* as they drafted it tells me you don't have a clue how that amendment has been interpreted through our history. Hint, it was not seen as a right to armed treason.

If you really subscribe to that, do you also believe average people should have the right to mini nukes? Because after all, you're in an arms race with your own damn govt?

Better question yet, would you be willing to shoot a uniformed American army serviceman/woman now? That's right, do you have the absolute gall to tell me you can shoot one of our own right this very moment? Stars and Stripes on their backs and everything?

Because if you can, you belong in a nice padded cell somewhere, preferably with a police escort.

"Nope. A license is not require to... operate a car. Please let me know if that simple concept needs to be explained to you."

Explain it to me. To legally drive a car you need a driver's license. Unless you are trying to split hairs and say you can drive it up and down your driveway without a license or something else as ridiculous.

It's [The Bill of rights] a marvelous document peeps, and if all you can do is boil it down to BANG BANG, you've already missed the basic point of it all anyway.

It is a marvelous document, and unfortunately you have missed the point. The first thing the founding fathers did after securing the rights of freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petitioning a governmental redress of grievances (all the ways the previous governments had used to control the people), they ensured the people would have the means to defend those freedoms from their government: "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

As for the other Amendments they as well as the rest of the amendments are worth a hill of beans without the first two. They are also not being attacked at this time.

HG...I don't remember exactly who but either Andrew or HA (in another thread weeks ago) explained quite accurately why the militia sentence is included in the 2A. Please don't insult us by pretending you didn't read it and don't make us repeat it.

"but the problem is that it is idiots like this that make up a goodly portion of gun owners"

the best estimates are about 45% or 52 million of American households own 260 million guns

So just what "goodly portion" of those 52 million households misuse guns? I would bet it's a pretty small percentage.
