I'm all for assisted suicide. I'm sure if it ever became legal in the US it would have some crippling price tag. If you don't have to suffer anymore, someone will have to.

I think if the Bible ends up being right by some random underdog upset, and they end up burning for an eternity in anguish and pain then they should have toughed it out.

If the Bible ends up being the best troll of all time... then I think they were still a bit hastey.

I think with all of the senses you still have left at that point, life is still pretty cool. At least a lot cooler than pre-life or post-life from what I can tell...

Why not live deaf and blind for just a little bit? I would test it out before I had myself euthanized. Just remember, there is always plenty of time to kill yourself.

I think a persons life is their own to end. Why should anyone else be able to dictate who wants to kill themselves?

Anyone else find it even a little bit amusing that it's considered "Humane" to euthanize an animal in unbearable pain, but it's considered inhumane to do the same thing for a HUMAN?

That said, it's their lives. Not mine, not yours. Let them make their choices and live or die with them.

Crakr- it doesn't matter whether you think they are either in pain or suffering. My grandmothers idea of a truly memorable night involved three cups of tea and a complicated knitting pattern. Mine involves very loud music... just as I cannot expect my idea of pleasure to coincide with yours we cannot expect one mans idea of intolerable suffering to coincide with ours. For these men the idea of losing two of their senses is enough.....

One post to FML for most of you would be the death knell.

Funny as that statement may be (and it IS funny,) each person has his own limit.
What you may brush off as a bad day may mentally plague another person for the rest of his life.

There was a case recently where it was discovered a guy killed another for revenge over a high school prank 50+ years later.
From his perspective, a wedgie and jockstrap on the head ruined the rest of his life...

Like people have already stated, if they want to end their lives they will, be it legally or illegally. The state might as well not make itself look like an antiquated ass and make the process as painless as it can be.

Reminds me of a case in France a couple years back. Woman with all kinds of tumors in her face; looked like something out of a horror movie. She wanted to legally end her life but was denied this option by the french government. She went on and publicly stated she will go on to find illegal ways to do it then..

At one point in my life Helen Keller was a hero, now she was just a suffering, burden.

It's their lives, who are you to tell them they have to live it? Why should they be punished for having weak bodies? Sure, there are some people that adjust and get along just fine, but some don't. Not everyone is the same and I find it repugnant to tell anyone they have to live in agony, be it physical or emotional, if they don't want to. Your life, your choice.

It's not up to anyone to decide how someone else can or can't die.

Suicide is always "allowed" - the only reason suicide is illegal is so that life insurance does not have to pay, since it will not pay if you die in the commission of a criminal act. So, if someone wants to commit suicide, nobody can stop them (other than helping them solve the problems leading to the situation) but their life insurance doesn't have to pay a cent.

Zieveraar: There are many blind and deaf people in the world that would disagree with you. Stephen Hawking can't hardly move a muscle and is considered one of the best physicists in the world.

These twins could've adapted to their blindness, there was no reason for them to commit suicide besides depression, which can be treated.

It's absolutely barbaric to not allow people to end their lives if they wish. If someone is willing to help, let them.
Suicide is ridiculous to legislate against and not much to do with this, the point in question here is not suicide, it's euthanasia...ie legalising the actions of the doctor performing the process, which is only legal in very few countries, unfortunately.

I think there should be suicide booths on the corners. Why not let people who want to die just die? I don't see the point in keeping people around who don't wanna be here. If I want to die, then I should die.

Not really in favor of this but it beats blowing your brains out in the living room of your home so your wife and kids can find you.

Yes, absolutely, it's their choice.
I saw this in the 80s with many friends who had to make this choice. No one knows until they're in the situation. Legal suicide is far preferable to the lonely prospect of having to sneak off by yourself to OD on pills in some motel room. Not to mention the trauma the unsuspecting maid who finds you suffers.

nothing wrong with this. you should be able to opt out if you want. if they want to die and have a legal means of doing it then cool. stop them and they will just swallow the business end of a shotgun. people will always find a way if they really want out.
