And yes African American is bullpoo, but no I have never been called PC, just opinionated.
The only real American is a native, all others are just the general muck that decided to move there because Europe was being too free-minded or because they were forced to move there by their slavers..either way you arrived at the same time & built the same country..you don't get to pretend you're better ;)

Saying African American is bullpoo, it forces us to be overly PC to the point of sounding stupid. It came full force in my Econometrics class when a guy was talking about some news that took place in Spain, and said "African Americans from Spain." Be careful with how you try to be politically correct, you could run the danger of sounding utterly idiotic. |

Excuse me, clarification - People who think Obama was born in Nigeria are misinformed - he has no Nigerian ancestry. Kenyan yes, but not Nigerian. Different countries, differing sides of a continent, yo.
FWIW, I was in Nairobi on the day he got elected the first time round. Pain in the arse - the Kenyan president declared next day as a poo-you-not bank holiday. I had to get to the fricking airport. Total mission trying to find a bloody taxi. |

On this I agree. I've only worked with ONE 'African-American'. He was an immigrant from Africa, LOVED the US and its opportunity and was a hard worker (though it was difficult to understand his accent).
If we had fewer people wanted to stress they are a hyphenated American, there'd be less devision.
Technically, I could claim to be 'Native-American', but I don't. |
