"Kitimat, BC, Canada Elevation ~1300m."??
Nope, not even close.
It's maybe 20-40m elevation at the most.

"I can't imagine trying to shovel my way out of that house."

Ya don't. You tunnel it out and call it a free addition (til spring).

Apparently all the snow that was supposed to fall in Massachusetts last year and this year got dumped all at once in one spot. I can't believe how little snow we're getting here, it's pathetic.

We gave up on plowing the roads now we just tunnel.

Everyone knows that all of Canada is always covered in snow and everyone goes everywhere on skis or snowmobiles. What's all this talk about roads?

:)

Over in Blighty 3 cms of snow kills everything!!

That's only because we're never properly prepared for snow. If local councils spent enough money to be properly prepared, everyone+dog would be complaining about the waste of money for the 360+ days a year that there isn't any snow.

Patchouly,

If you got "no snow at all" last year, that pretty well limits you to the southwest corner of British Columbia!

@macguffin - not true. I live in Gateshead and whenever it so much as sleets everyone just gives up.

"and Scotland just carry on as normal."

My mum lives in a small Scottish hamlet with her Scot hubby....yeah it does snow a fair bit. Things grind to a halt because of it a fair bit too though.

Meanwhile though my dad lives in Spain and has turned into a right soft drater since....he thinks it's really cold just because he can't go in the pool for new year.

Canadians have real testes

Speak for yourself, you Southern Softie. Anywhere south of Leeds might grind to a standstill, but the North of England (and I don't mean those bits in the middle that like to call themselves "Northern") and Scotland just carry on as normal. We need to - we get hit a lot more often than you.

Just to keep the stereotypes separate from the truth, it should be noted that this is most likely a house that was buried by an avalanche.

Snow fall can vary wildly. Last year, we had no snow at all. This year, we've had about 6 inches; but our friend's to the south (New York State, etc.) had considerably more than us.

Also, regarding the temperature thing. You'll find it has a lot to do with humidity levels. If you go WAY up North, it can be -20c and you are okay to wear a sweater. However, -20 in the Toronto area will freeze you solid! Same thing goes with the heat. Dry heat is much better than humid heat. Luckily, are hottest days never go past the high 90's and, the odd time, hit 100.

korahn - I know how you feel. People up north start crying when it's over 85F - hard to feel sorry for them when we're having 110F+ for weeks.

And then consider the storm New York had a year or two ago. They acted like a few feet of snow was the end of the world. While this picture is not every snowfall in Canada, it's not far off from a major storm.

As long as I have my woodstove, barbecue, and a stick to hunt some bear I would be happy as a clam.

I'd be worried about the roof, and supplies. Other than that ... yeah, I'd be perfectly okay living there. Some people dream of a hut on a tropical beach ... I dream of THAT.

Kitimat is on the coast, more like 10 or 20m elevation. At well over 4000 feet, this has to be a mountain cabin.
