Tuesday, December 11, 2012 7:58:59 AM What a retarded discussion. The meat in the packaging is most likely from one place. The company obviously sources meat from all these countries. Instead of tracking each slice of meat and labeling each package individually they just slap this on all packages and are done with it. Most likely to save money. Definitaly not a tactic for high quality meat distributors, but it dont mean that each package has meat from all those places. Still an undesireable label. Its probably cheapo-meat for people who dont care. Not judging, Ive been there in my broke days, in the 'I dont care Im just hungry' zone. BTW Lol @ dude who claimed that ground meat is called minced meat in most places. Other countries have their own languages you know, but I rarely see 'minced' even on English language packaging. |

Monday, December 10, 2012 9:33:34 PM tedgp doesn't want his Mad Cow Disease diluted with healthy beef. Besides, what's wrong with those other countries? Are you some kind of racist? |

Monday, December 10, 2012 9:31:30 PM Fun fact, I'm not allowed to donate blood in the US because I lived in England for too long. Mad Cow be infecting me. As for America being a cesspool. Call me crazy, but that sounds like a racial remark. |

Monday, December 10, 2012 7:06:55 PM It's possible the beef comes from different countries at different times, and they're just being lazy by printing one label. I would still laugh pretty hard seeing this in the store though. |

Monday, December 10, 2012 5:45:02 PM @patchouly, skulgrin, and Hokie: The point is the looong list of countries the beef is from. Ideally you want your package of ground meat to all come from a single cut. The more cows you add to one batch, the more likely you are to have contamination like E. Coli or mad cow, because it means the meat is probably being handled poorly. If you even had just one cow from each country listed you would have five cows too many in my mind. Hence my earlier comment about buying a piece of sirloin and having the butcher grind it for me. That way I know what meat is in it and I know it's being properly handled. |

Monday, December 10, 2012 4:40:00 PM @patchouly The joke is that one piece of beef is labeled as a product of six countries. |

Monday, December 10, 2012 4:17:41 PM Wait...a picture of a 85-15 ground beef label? How is this interesting or "an argument for becoming a vegetarian"? Fancy, were you unaware that ground beef had certain percentages of beef fat in them? |

Monday, December 10, 2012 4:08:37 PM "CJD was a short lived disease that is now non existant in the UK. " this is incorrect. vCJD has hit its peak but there are still about 1 to 2 deaths reported per year and the UK's Health Protection Agency has noted that there are possiblities that we can see future peaks of vCJD

Monday, December 10, 2012 3:01:28 PM It's not from Canada! We import a little bit from South America, but mostly we export TO the USA... When our processors aren't shut down by Listeria that is... |

Monday, December 10, 2012 1:16:04 PM The listing of all the countries on the label just shows that the producer has packing plants in all those countries...nothing more...here in the US we import leaner beef (a lot of our 90% + is from New Zealand), we import Mexican calves to fatten here, etc...as far as the 15% fat...what the hell did you think 85% meant? |
