Wednesday, November 21, 2012 10:56:52 AM drat "expected" tips. Pay a fair wage. Fire them if they don't give customers good service. If they give great service I'll leave a tip. |

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 9:41:50 AM They aren't trying to trick you into double-tipping. It clearly says ADD'L (ADDITIONAL) TIP. *smh* |

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 3:39:32 AM that is ghetto as fudge. Why do they spend all of their welfare at restaurants anyways? |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 8:10:11 PM If you have never been out to a restaurant before and can not read I can understand your confusion. Gratuity is generally included on parties of 6 or more. Or if you are in a place with a ghetto clientele where people don't tip it is sometimes added to all checks. Top or not is your choice. But remember these people make $2.13 and usually pay out 4% of total sales to support staff. Say what you will, these are the facts. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 9:42:19 AM First of all, most restaurants don't include gratuity unless the check is over $50. If you ask me, the server was being mildly racist in thinking black dudes don't tip (they don't). But just for doing that, I wouldn't tip her anything extra either. She's already getting 17%, plenty. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 8:22:42 AM i dont see how any decent person who is working for a living can have the balls to deny a fellow person who served them food a few extra bucks. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 6:44:34 AM Europeans love to use the excuse they only tip based on service but the few time I was stiffed it wasn't because of the service it was because of absolute cheapness. YOU'RE CHEAP! |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 6:39:23 AM sharpydufc - The kind of non-nice individual who thinks that nobody should tip, so that waiters and waitresses complain. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 6:38:32 AM I used to work at a restaurant where the servers never saw a dime of that "gratuity" that was included in the bill. Because of it, we were lucky if we got a $2 tip for a 6 hour shift. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 6:07:07 AM the big difference is minimum wage. In the UK it is £6.19 / $10.00 an hour. Legally you cant get paid under that so, even waitresses earn a minimum standard of living. Therefore a tip is an "extra" reward for good service. to be fair to the USA tipping is more integral because waitresses depend on it more. What sort of non-nice individual would deprive them of a few dollars when they earn so little (i think its $2.13 isnt it? which is pretty awful.... who could live on that?) |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 5:18:02 AM I only tip if the service was good enough. Some sour faced, vinegar titted woman isn't getting my money if she brings me below par food or makes feel valued. I'm not expecting the flags to be unfurled everytime I enter, just a smile or acknowledgement goes a long way. The term 'gratuity' has lost all meaning now if it's plastered all over every receipt you get. It's taking the piss. I'd be insulted. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 3:57:09 AM i dont know, but in europe or moer specificly, in the netherlands a tip is a gift, a reward for good service or just an extra given by the customer. It is extreme bad form in my humble opinion to ask for it. i dont tip the fireman, policeman or nurse for doing their respective jobs, why should i tip someone working in any other form of service job? Mind you, i generaly do tip but if it is asked for, the answer becomes no. Then again, where i live, it never asked for. And just to make sure, i was a barkeep for several years, i could double my salery with tips and still, asking for it is just not done. Expecting it from customers is just another way of upping the price, bad form. so keep pointing at the ones that dont give a tip or make a funny remark on the bill for it, but the reall issue is the blatent begging. just my two cents |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 3:07:06 AM Seems to be a big issue in the US. In the UK we tip because we are pleased with the service not because we have to. The argument that it bumps up a low paid wage is not the customers problem. Surely the restaurant's should be paying their staff more. |

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 12:05:09 AM I would guess this is a room service receipt. They always have the gratuity already in the total and say so right on the menu in the room before you order. |

Monday, November 12, 2012 10:40:00 PM Okay. This has got to be a case of the 8 or more rule, and they tried to swindle the restaurant by splitting the tickets. They're paying a tip anyway, idioth. The Nah Playa is a TNB way to just say "Hey! I'm a douche!" Leave it blank playa. |

Monday, November 12, 2012 10:16:37 PM swindle? sometimes the waiter does such a great job that you want to give them more than the auto-grat from your large group. i have done it plenty of times. always look at your bill because mistakes happen. they aren't intentionally trying to drat you over. but if you are too dumb to read the financial statement of payment you are signing? thats you own damn problem. and if you feel it necessary to write in anything under the additional tip portion that isn't a tip (like "Nah Playa") then you are being an non-nice individual. and most of the time the type of non-nice individual that wouldn't give an appropriate tip if the grat was not added. TL;DR: server isn't the non-nice individual, the customer is |

Monday, November 12, 2012 10:07:03 PM My bet is there had been a party of 8 or larger, and it's common for many places to put in gratuity if there's more than 7 seated to a table. Maybe everyone paid their own bill and that's why it's only 14 bucks. If I'm correct they'll still enforce gratuity regardless of how it's paid (1 bill or split). I think that's what this is, ya know? |

Monday, November 12, 2012 9:08:21 PM I normally tip 15-20% for normal service, but if I saw this, not only would I not tip, I would have them remove the gratuity. Deceitful pricing is not OK. |

Monday, November 12, 2012 8:38:01 PM Well, it actually says right there "Add'l Tip" clearly implying that a gratuity is already added and that anything written in the line is an ADDITIONAL tip. |
