@8Bit - Sure thing. The red team had the ball but the green team intercepted it. That means they gained control of the ball.
So in the next play, one of the green players caught the ball. The problem is, when he caught it, he threw it on the ground. (As his way of celebrating the catch.)
According to American Football rules, however, that's still considered a live ball. One of the red players picks it up and runs it to the goal to score.
...all because that green player that caught the ball celebrated his catch too early. |

Ironic that number 8 on the green team made the interception, then number 8 on the red team picked up the fumble and took it in for a win. |

I didn't hear a whistle. Either way, the ref would have run to the ball waving their hands signaling the end of the play. |

To be sure, it was a fumble. No matter what. The ONLY consideration that can change the result of the play as we see it on the video is *if* there was a whistle, in which case, Crakr's point is correct (the point is valid either way, but, if no whistle sounded, and that's in question, Crakr's point's not applicable here, but, if one had sounded, he's correct).
As for Scuzoid's mystery spiking rule, I'm sorry good sir, but that doesn't count on a live ball. In your link, the Denver guy was down by contact upon making the interception. That play ended with the men on the ground. The spike was a dead ball penalty after the play that had nothing to do with a live ball.
We can get into rules governing a penalty for purposefully "fumbling" or "accidentally" kicking the ball forward, but that's not applicable here, either, with the change of possession. |

anyone who claims to hear a whistle needs to get their ears checked
there is the buzzer, then a high pitched scream from near the camera man, it is not a whistle, listen to the end whistle to tell the diference |

If a ref whistled, they have a point. BUT, if only one did, and other's did not, you have mass confusion. |

But yeah, there were so many inconsistencies with that play is amazing it took three whole weeks to get THESE refs off of the NFL gridiron. No flag on the delay, whistle blown, offensive player removing his helmet, THEN the ball is picked up and a touchdown is allowed? Haha, thank god Obama said something, the current season was becoming unbettable. |

Yep, shouldn't count. CrakrJak is correct. Ref blew the whistle. Dead ball. Period. Whether or not defense can spike or not is irrelevant. |

After he caught the ball (had control of it), it could only be dead if he was downed or run/thrown out of bounds. By dropping the ball, it was technically a fumble (still live) and the other team could field it a run it into for a touchdown.

even if the buzzer sounds the game ends only after the play is over. so, the kid intercepted it, heard buzzer threw it down (note he didnt take a knee), thats considered a fumble and still a live ball. other team picked up and scored ending the play and the game. in short, always make sure the ref blows a whistle before you let go of the ball. |
