I understand that a kid might want a ball, but why do adults?

"Kid needs to learn that you don't always get what you want."

But if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need.

@highonhuffin: Dude, you're absolutely right. Never thought about it that way. I normally hate bassplayers who use picks.

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with what that couple did!!!! That F*CKING kid is what? TWO? THREE? He'd never appreciate the ball as much as an adult would! His PARENTS would end up with it ANYWAY! in a mere DAY that kid probably could have cared LESS about that ball! Why give up an awesome souvenir to a THREE year old so he can lose it, lose interest in it or just give it to his greedy parents!! You are never OBLIGATED to give it to a kid because he CRIED! Remind me NEVER to sit next to a kid at a game!

God forbid a child that age might cry over something like this.
@a103276 - any pick caught from a bass player is worthless, should be using his fingers.

Sadly, I see both sides of the argument on this. I wish I didn't, because it means I've changed into someone willing to say "drat you, I got what I want".

When I was a child, a stranger once offered to pay for the toy I had asked my mother for in the checkout line at the store after she had told me she didn't have enough for it. I never forgot that gesture, and I've tried to follow it since. I hope there are still some people out there like that, not this couple who flaunts their victory over a crying kid for a simple baseball.

Yeah let's all bash the crying kid because he doesn't understand that it's a cruel world! And as Americans it's required that we pass down our pragmatic acceptance of "the harsh reality of life," I mean, he should have learned that at age two!

No, the couple next to him were mean persons... Supermean persons

Whatever. Kid needs to learn that you don't always get what you want. Suck it up, Tyke.

I once caught a drumstick on a festival from a band called Hellacopters. I don't even care about them. But the guy next to me almost started crying so I said: "These guys drating suck. You have it." He was the happiest person on earth.

Needles to say, the pick I caught from Rob Trujillo... take it from my cold dead hands!

I don't like the title of the post. It implies that the people that caught the ball were in the wrong for fairly catching the ball and not giving it away to the nearest crying kid.

So what?

i hate this new age where everyone thinks they deserve something for no reason. just because its a kid does not mean he "needs" that ball any more than the people who caught it.

jacos27 - 1. What difference does it make who the sportscasters are or how many of them there were? I said nothing at all about 'who' they were - Yankees or otherwise. Whoever they were, they were douche bags for saying that.

2. The seats were expensive - who cares? Crying child and his parents are sitting in equally expensive seats, no? How do we know they paid a lot of money for them? For all we know that whole row was a bunch of contest winners that got premium seats for free.

3. How were the couple to know that they had anything at all to do with the kid having a meltdown? For all they knew he may have just been told he couldn't have ice cream before dinner. Should I automatically assume from here on out that if a kid suddenly starts crying at a sporting event I'm attending that it must be my fault somehow, feel bad about it and placate him somehow?!

In the end, I don't really give 2 figs for any of them - but I do think the sportscaster is an non-nice i

If I caught a baseball at a game, the first thing i would do is see if there's a kid nearby I could give the ball to, because....Im a grown man.

Oh no, a kid is throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted---let's give him a ball and teach him that crying and screaming always works!!!

Yeah, it would've been a nice gesture, but seriously, kids have to learn that they can't always have their way. The dad wasn't even phased, and was laughing at how kids make huge deals out of nothing. The announcer in this is the real douche, judging someone for catching a foul ball next to a kid and not coughing it up on the spot...

How do we know that ball didn't have significance to the couple that caught it? Sure, it's a nice gesture to give little kids caught fouls, but you shouldn't be made to feel bad about it if you choose not to.

one thing the TSN didn't do was show the kid crying his eyes out for a LOT longer than those few seconds in the video. The people in the dugout heard the kid, but the couple right next to him didn't hear him? bull5h1t! They did notice him and did nothing about it.

...first of all, there are two sports casters. One is the announcer for the Yankees, the other is the sports news guy.

...second of all, if you watched the actual game the context of the mallace of what the couple did would be more evident. The man's money comes into play is because those were very expensive seats, field level and right next to the dugout. but that was the sports news guy who made the comment on the the money, not the yankees announcer guy.

@ McGovern1981 - How exactly? I just watched it again to see if I might have missed something, here's what I saw:
Ball goes into stands. Man with woman goes for the ball, as does daddy who fails to get it. Man presents ball to woman. Child makes grabby hands and then begins crying. Man takes picture of smiling woman holding the baseball. Woman then hugs man and kisses him (it appears to be on his neck). Sportscaster makes snarky comment about them making out (I did not see that happening - could have been off camera but I doubt it). Someone throws the kid a ball and then the sportscaster makes another snarky comment about her disappearing as soon as the guy has no money left.
I saw nothing in this woman's behavior to indicate that she's a gold digger. The ball was given to her, she didn't grab it from the kid. All she did was smile for a picture while holding it and give the guy a hug. Also, if that was a make out session it was pretty damn chaste.
