Wednesday, September 28, 2011 11:02:50 PM It took CERN how long to find something faster than the speed of light? I think this dog shatters that record. |

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 7:33:39 PM Angilion: I'm not positive, but i think we've evlolved to have a sense of taste to keep us from eating rotten or otherwise hazardous food. Lots of things that a dog eats would kill us. Like poo. Nobody can be sure of such things, but it's definitely plausible. All the more so when combined with the fact that humans are omnivores with a very wide range of edible food, which means that we have need of a wide-ranging way of detecting harmful stuff before swallowing it. No doubt in the past there were very many cases of humans encountering plants they weren't familiar with and wondering "is that edible?". Although I think a dog could probably tell potentially dangerous food better than a human can, from smell alone. |

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 6:27:56 PM Don't eat rotten things that would hurt us? Speak to any Eskimos, who regularly eat rotted meat, for the health benefits of the bacteria. We're just wimps out here who eat things far worse than them, when we consider all the packaged and processed and pasteurized garbage we consume. |

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 4:51:56 PM The comments about how this stuff smells like bacon but doesn't taste anything like it made me wonder if dogs have much of a sense of taste. A quick look around implies that their sense of taste is far less acute than a human's. They're not physically equipped for it and they don't seem to pay much attention to it. Smell and taste are connected, so smell is vastly more important than taste to a dog. A dog will probably eat anything too quickly to get much of a taste anyway. Looks like the dog food and snacks industry knows what they're doing. |

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 2:39:00 PM That cannot be bacon. Toy bacon. Not real bacon. No human should eat that. That is not bacon. |
