"Both parents were there, so Mom and her brother kept shopping while Dad threw the howling brat over his shoulder like a rolled rug and marched her out to the car!"

Sounds a lot like the 'good cop, bad cop' strategy my parents used :)

Haha! I need to turn this into a shirt. I'm a parent and one of my biggest pet peeves are screaming brats and parents who don't give a drat.

todays people are too lazy to discipline their children much if at all. It starts with using sweets to buy love.

I watched a little girl throwing an "I want that" fit in my local discount store. Both parents were there, so Mom and her brother kept shopping while Dad threw the howling brat over his shoulder like a rolled rug and marched her out to the car! You should have seen the look on her face when she realized she's blown her chance of getting ANYthing. I felt like congratulating the father for being the only parent I had ever seen in my life live up to the traditional (and normally meaningless) threat that "we'll go back to the car!"

How single parents do it is beyond me.

my mom, who is no saint, BEAT good manners into all of us. i also went all through catholic school in the 1960's and mid 1970's when old-school nuns took no sh*t. now, don't get me wrong, i do not condone such extremes. however i do believe that children need to be taught manners from the time they understand english (or whatever language y'all speak). there is nothing wrong with telling a kid 'no' and enforcing it. there is also nothing wrong with lightly smacking a diapered butt to make a point; sometimes you just need to get their attention. time-outs don't work because a kid doesn't get the point you're trying to make. and before anyone jumps on me for opinions, i may be a mom soon through adoption and i plan on giving our daughter a good life which includes self-esteem, good manners, and discipline.

Oh dear God Davy, I feel for you. Tell your girl those little snits will never be happy when they grow up.

If a little kid called my wife a f*cking bitch, even if it was the child of Ghandi, I would smack it. I have limited patience when it comes to little entitled bad-tempered snots.

THEN my wife accidentally threw the older brother's last drop of Gatorade down the sink. Remember, this kid is six. So he lay on the floor, breakdancing around with his feet like the f*cking kid in The Exorcist, screaming at the top of his lungs "I F*CKING HATE YOU BITCH! I F*CKING HATE YOU!", at my wife. How did the parents handle this situation? You guessed it, dad went to the 24-hour gas station to get him another bottle of Gatorade.

Saddest thing is, they're loaded with cash. So their kids have a $2500 swing set, each has an electric car to ride around in, hell, they've even got a top-of-the-line iPad each. So my daughter (who sits back in abject horror while they're having screaming fits), keeps asking my why those guys have all they nice things they have, and she doesn't have those things, when she tries to be good. FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

OK, rant over. Sorry about that. Hope some parents can relate!

5Cats, couldn't agree more.

I have a 5-year old, and don't get me wrong, she's no angel, but she's pretty good. She NEVER has fits, long story short: because she knows they don't work.

On the other hand, my wife's best friend and her husband have 2 kids, one 6 years old and the other 3. And they are both f*cking assh*les. Yes, I know they're kids, but they're f*cking assh*les. And their parents have made them assh*les.

Just the other night we were round at their place and the 3 year old had a f*cking screaming fit (I mean, tearing the place down) because he wasn't allowed an ice-cream immediately before going to bed. So, of course, his parents gave him an ice-cream. THEN he wanted another one, had another f*cking pissy-fit, so of course his parents gave him another one.

"This is true. If I threw a tantrum as a kid my parents would take me outside and lecture me until I stopped. Don't ignore your kids and don't let them learn bad habits. They need to learn to respect other people."

I wish they had this sign at the shoe store I was in today. I actually left without buying the tennis shoes I wanted because this extremely loud child was having a fit in the next aisle.

this sign is correct in general, but every child will have a tantrum or two in embarrassing places.

@Lele13 is correct: it's lazy/bad parents that cause screaming kids.

Just brib your screaming child with sweets and toys, they'll behave like angels next time! (/sarc)

Or better yet: negotiate! You can easily reach a compromise with a howling 3 year-old in 20, 30 minutes tops! (ok, no more sarc now!)

Best of all, just completely ignore your screaming child! If you're not bothered by it, neither is anyone else! (really, last time!)
