Friday, December 31, 2010 12:26:16 AM @rammo34 I occasionally think the same thing about Dimebag, but then I remember that his style is drating legendary on its own. I'll occasionally feel empty inside because I will never get to hear how he'll take his music to the next level. Though he probably gets more cred than he *should* because he died, I'd maintain that he really deserves most of it. |

Thursday, December 30, 2010 3:18:30 PM @rammo34 definately. his suicide just made him "iconic" to everyone. but yea, much more talented grunge bands out there by far than nirvana. |

Thursday, December 30, 2010 8:30:30 AM @DBman89 Agreed. I like Kurt, but I can't f*cking stand the high schoolers that worship him, and think that he's the goddamn father of modern rock or some sh*t. If he hadn't shot himself, he wouldn't be nearly as popular as he is today. There's other 90's grunge bands that have way more talent than Nirvana. A |

Thursday, December 30, 2010 5:25:14 AM lol it's not that theyre a horrible band, as i said just extremely overrated. if perhaps they weren't put up on some uber high pedestal then it wouldn't bother me as much. i use to be a fan until all the "super" fans i had the misfortune of being surrounded by in high school would never shut up about how kurt was not only the greatest singer and lyricist ever but also a better guitar player than the likes of Page, Hendrix, and Allman just to name a few. now some of you may not know who those guitarist are. if so promptly grab your ipod and continue transmitting ear cancer to yourself and listen to nevermind. i mean, dave grohl (who i think is brilliant) was musically speaking a better singer than cobain. he can hit notes that kurt couldn't dream of touching and say all you want about how "it's not about the voice or notes it's the emotion while singing". i agree but plain and simple if your drummer is a better singer than your frontman then you have failed. |

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 4:22:04 PM (edit: and Kurt Cobain especially so) To add on just a bit more: Kurt, for much of his career, was obsessed with trying to not become a cliche, trying to avoid falling into the 'rock n roll lifestyle'. During a lot of the 80's, music was obsessed with image, the artists wanted to appear like gods upon the stage, great and powerful and talented beyond the comprehension of mere mortals. Kurt, and by extension Nirvana, didn't want any of that. They didn't want a polished look or to pretend that they were the greatest musicians that ever lived. They made music that they liked. For themselves. They just so happened to make it big anyways. Yeah, there are a lot of stupid teenie-boppers with Nirvana shirts running around acting like Kurt is the fallen angel of rock and that he's perfect in every way. It makes me just as sick as it makes you. But that shouldn't take away from the goodness of the band. |

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 4:15:08 PM @DBman89 -Nice work champ, letting other people's opinions influence your taste in music. Furthermore, real big of you to try and bait them into an angry response. And finally, you need a little something cleared up for you, and I suppose it's my burden to do so. Just because a group's style isn't complex, and just because they didn't spend ages in the studio perfecting every little harmony with the best equipment that money could buy doesn't mean they aren't artistically valid. Grunge borrowed a lot from the hardcore punk of the 80's-- and Kurt Cobain was especially so. The genre diverges in that rather than bellowing at the breakneck speed of punk, grunge tends to slow things down a bit, while being more melodic. However, you will notice, especially in earlier Nirvana songs, that a lot of the rawness of punk tends to show through, along with that straightforward (unpretentious) simplicity. Which, at that point, really comes down to taste. |

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 3:38:20 PM nirvana = most overrated band to ever exist. i'd rather listen to taylor swift sing miley cyrus songs than listen to nirvana. |
