i can only imagine what happens when you use too much, or too little. There's bound to be one woman who'd do that.

You can do the same thing with skunk scent. Just rub some on, and you'll never get pregnant (unless, of course, you happen to be a skunk).

Hylia, can't say I've had that problem. But I won't get into the gross details. Still, having a smelly vag isn't that bad of a side effect, in comparison to the rest.

@Kegomatic:
Mirena have estrogen. it release it just very slowly. And you have to have a regular partner because there is a small wire that stick in the vagina (for removal) and if you get a STD, it could run of that wire and get straight to the uterus and screw things up. Mirena is not ideal either (even tho that's what I've been wearing for the past 8 years)

@Sarahofborg:
Nuvaring is just as bad as the rest. To have such a concentration of hormones so close of your ovaries is a bad thing. A lot of woman can't use it either because it screw quite a bit your vagina's normal balance in PH and flora. or how ever you guys call this in english.

@Angilion:
I didn't said it was perfect, I just said it was promising. Of course there is possible complications. Just like the pill or any other form of birth control can lead to complications. I just think that from a environment and convenience point of view, it seem like a good idea and a fair solution.

I don't know, doesn't this basically mean you're covered in female hormones?

Only where you rub the gel. Which is transparent, so you can't tell exactly where it is. It will be on your hand too, of course.

What if you want to hug your son?

You'll dose them too, if you touch them where you rubbed the gel. Which is rather likely to happen if, like in the examples, you rub it on your arm. Or if you touch them with the hand you rubbed the gel in with.

No doubt it washes off, at least partly.

Which means you'd have to time your washing to the gel. Shower twice a day, only get part of a daily dose per day, get pregnant.

And how is this more practical than swallowing a pill?

Beats me.

If it applied to me, I'd be saying "Thanks for another option, but I'll choose something else."

The pill for man is non-sense.

Maybe not completely. There have been at least half a dozen clinical trials (i.e. on people) in the UK.

They've all failed safety tests, but they did work.

A couple of them weren't chemical castration lite, too. They caused blood vessels to rupture in some of the men...but...OK, it does look like nonsense.

But maybe they'll find something that works and allows men a bit more of a choice.

Blocking the vas deferens (the "temporary vasectomy" you refer to) has a host of problems of its own. Obviously, there is a pressure build up behind the blockage. That's bad news. Maybe fatally bad news. Also, reversing it would not necessarily restore fertility for the same reasons that reversing a standard vasectomy isn't. Reconnecting the tube or removing the blockage might or might not restore fertility. It's NOT temporary.

@SarahofBorg Yes, I have heard that too. Poor fish and amphibians being subjected to the female sex hormones left over our human pee! Somehow I think that the gel would be even worse for them, although I could be wrong...

Mosthead: I'm gonna guess she either screwed up the dose or forgot that antibiotics counteract the birth control effect. Too many idiots take the pill, especially when it's the most complicated form of protection. The other ones out there are usually much better.

NotTHATBored: the effecting animals things is already a SERIOUS concern. First of all, the main ingredient in birth control is horse estrogen, which is harvested from constantly pregnant horses. Second, you pee out all the progesterone eventually, so our water supply is already heavily polluted with it. So the animals are already royally screwed.

I still think Nuvaring is the best of them all. It's the only birth control that allows you to have a normal period, so it still allows you to cycle naturally. Plus you can forget about it for 3 weeks at a time.

This freaks me out. A pill or an injection isn't going to rub off on anyone else. What if you rub the lotion on and then have sex with your significant other? Would he absorb some of the female hormones? Is it going to wash off in the shower, go down the drain, and effect the animals? What if you have kids and they get it on them?

They already have pills, implants, patches, injections... I'm not really all that surprised that they have a lotion. It's the same kinds of hormones you are getting, although in different quantities and compositions.

I took the pill for 5 years and gained like 40 pounds. Been off it for 6 months now, have lost over half of it with absolutely zero effort. I am officially done with hormones.

Condoms, then pop out a kid at some point, then sterilization.

Well, if you're the kind of person that puts lotion on daily, this would be great.
