Wednesday, November 04, 2009 7:06:31 PM Well see here's the thing, you don't need a new term for your religious affiliation, it's still (I'd assume) atheism. What you're looking at there is your epistemology and you don't need to give it a name. Religion and Epistemology are not necessarily related. |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 1:17:42 PM May simply be influenced with good old fashioned social conditioning.Lets say for example if there were a hell of a lot of 13-17 year olds on a site that posts 3 anti-religious posts a day (usually devoid of fact, reason, argument). Just as an example. Which I concede to you is no basis for a belief system. All ideas should be weighed equally before making a decision. And decisions ought to be reconsidered in light of new discoveries. sorry for touching a nerve, jeez actually scratch that, i have a feeling you enjoy these exchanges a little too much |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 1:13:19 PM I apologize then for my improper use of the label atheist. Even though it does apply to myself it is too vague a term for me to use it as a basis of argument in support of my belief system. Therefore, bash atheism all you want, I no longer care, as I am in need of a new name for my religious affiliation (or specific kind of lack thereof). |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 12:55:10 PM (Continued) You really don't see how ignorant a statement like that is?You clearly didn't like the tables being turned. You got upset. Yet still didn't concede the point. Worst of all, you're talking about Atheism as the sole result of facts, as if your average Atheist is a Philosophy and Theology scholar, and that this is the way Atheists are made. Whilst that thought may make you feel all warm inside, I feel that quite a few, I'm going out on a limb here: May simply be influenced with good old fashioned social conditioning. Lets say for example if there were a hell of a lot of 13-17 year olds on a site that posts 3 anti-religious posts a day (usually devoid of fact, reason, argument). Just as an example. |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 12:47:09 PM Fact 1: The defintion of Atheist is: "One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods." Fact 2: No definition of Atheist is: "Has chosen to make an informed decision based on facts" Fact 3: An Atheist is in no way shape or form reliant on your definition of atheist for whether they are a "good atheist" or a "bad atheist". Fact 4: Facts are not, as you suggest, an Atheist's "Bible". There is no required reading for Atheism. Fact 5: The scientific method, does not preclude theism. Fact 6: Facts, are still not "possessed" even by those who believe in the Scientific Method. Opinion 1: You claim I misuse the word "fact" by claiming it can be possessed and then claim facts are possessed. Opinion 2: The main point of the previous poster was "How would you like it if you were called ignorant". You basically responded with "Well that's different, cos we're not ignorant". |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 10:40:30 AM Baalthazaq:If something is truly a fact of the universe then it is not something to be possessed by any one group, otherwise it's more of an opinion. In other words, the facts that you say atheists claim to "possess" are in fact possessed by anyone who chooses to believe in the validity of the scientific method. I'll go out on a limb here and claim that this group includes the majority of atheists and religious folk alike. I'm not claiming superiority nor am I trying to bash Christianity. I'm just saying that any atheist who can be deemed "ignorant of the facts" isn't a very good atheist and is comparable to a christian who hasn't read the bible. Atheism != Ignorance |

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 5:02:50 AM Nurcowski:Atheists are to facts, as are internet commentators to massive penises. Simply because they claim ad infinitum to be the sole possessors of said latters, it does not make it the case. |

Tuesday, November 03, 2009 11:49:45 PM wrexsoull: How would all you atheists like it if Fancy Lad was always posting links about why atheists are so stupid and ignorant?I'm not sure that's relevant as ignorance is more commonly associated with religion than atheism. I mean how can you call someone ignorant who has chosen to make an informed decision based on facts as opposed to ancient literature? |

Tuesday, November 03, 2009 7:12:29 PM I don't appreciated being called a mindless follower. I am tired of flame wars because nobody wins in one, but I don't like all these blatant jabs at Christianity all the time. How would all you atheists like it if Fancy Lad was always posting links about why atheists are so stupid and ignorant? |
