Friday, October 16, 2009 1:34:29 AM I don't get why they have issues with sharing a bunk. It's like making it into dorms or something. If you're gonna let women on ships, either something's gonna happen, or it's not. like bunks are gonna effect that in the slightest. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 7:38:37 PM Reading these comments, I do feel compelled to make one thing clear. When it is mentioned that on submarines people share bunks, that's true. BUT NOT AT THE SAME TIME!The term is hotbunking and is a horror that the noobs (unless they're in food service) must endure. Since the sub runs 24/7, two people will be assigned one bunk. When one is on watch, the other is sleeping. The slightly better arrangement is 2 bunks for 3 people.... |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 3:56:04 PM "Can we agree that a woman might fight better than a man? Not men or women in general, I was just thinking that if women were permitted to do service in submarines, you'd have a wider range of applicants to choose from, therefore having a better chance of having an even better suited crew. "That would be true only with actual sexual equality. No-one with any say in the matter is proposing that. It could be done that way and I think it should be done that way. Just one standard - the standard for the job. Not one standard for men and a lower standard for women, with everyone ordered to pretend they're the same standard. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 8:52:36 AM @BaelzarNo, what we're dealing with here is a sealed boat filled with a poo load of young "been locked in this drating boat forever" men with a woman or two thrown into the mix. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 7:36:32 AM Certainly. If women are better for the job, then use them. Use them exclusively, in fact.Somehow, I don't think that's what we're dealing with here. I think we're dealing with some misguided attempt at equality. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 6:14:45 AM If you're Hyde, send out Jekyll. He must be the smart one.The only thing I care about regarding the military is how well it kills people and destroys property. Anything else is fluff, and doesn't belong. Does a Predator Drone do a better job than a human pilot? If so, use the drone. Does a man fight better than a woman? If so, use a man. Further, does having women in combat, on the front lines (including all the logistics involved) actually help the mission or hurt it? That's the only question that needs answering. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 5:19:35 AM "It is sexist of you to assume Women who are willing to go on submarines need separate bedrooms, bathrooms and showers. That's almost saying that you don't think Women are capable of making their own choices."I think that the fact you capitalise 'women' says a great deal. There's no way feminists will allow women to serve equally with men, sharing sleeping quarters, showers, toilets, etc. Bear in mind that on a submarine sailors often share bunks, let alone rooms. If the navy doesn't give women preferential treatment, women's rights groups will go ape about it and the navy will be forced to comply. The proposals are that, anyway. No-one with any say in the matter is suggesting a genuinely integrated crew on an equal basis. Or genuine sexual equality in any section of the military. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 1:27:59 AM When are we going to stop denying the inevitable consequences of our natural urges in the name of maintaining this facade of political correctness and manufacturing token advances for the 'underclass?'On that note, shutup MrHyde. Unless you were kidding about the egalitarian shower manifesto, what you're condoning IS the new Puritanism. |

" I remember a time when the military was more interested in being effective than being a social experiment.Submarines don't have extra room for things like separate quarters, or bathrooms, or showers. Efficiency is paramount, not some artificial sense of fairness. " I remember a time when the Military wasn't run by old puritan ideals keeping itself from being useful. It is sexist of you to assume Women who are willing to go on submarines need separate bedrooms, bathrooms and showers. That's almost saying that you don't think Women are capable of making their own choices. Everybody who gets ready to go on a submarine is warned of the issues. The next step is to allow females in combat. Instant extreme boost of capable, willing combat-ready soldiers. Yes, there are a few excuses, but they're easily fixed: Period: Girlfriend on a period = Scary. Girlfriend on a period with an M4 and baddies to shoot= RUN. Pregnancy: Send em to a nearby base till |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:16:01 PM There are many other countries that have sex-integrated sub crews...but the culture of those countries are not sexually repressive like the U.S. Hetero women in the States are so uptight that they could shove a piece of coal up their asses and pull out a diamond inside of a week. Submariners have to maintain an unparalleled level of emotional stability and have some of the most difficult jobs in the Navy. Worrying about pissing off some oversensitive chick should not be a part of the equation. If it actually goes through, it will not end well. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 9:18:46 PM In the British Royal Navy of the 18th and 19th centuries, it was rum, sodomy, and the lash. In the 21st century US Navy, they have done away with rum and the lash. These gals will get along just fine. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 8:09:35 PM "Gay guys can be on submarines with other gay guys and they haven't turned into a big gay sex orgy. Then why shouldn't women be allowed on a submarine with straight guys? It will not turn into a big heterosexual sex orgy." It's not just that... and that doesn't even work. If everyone on a submarine were gay, maybe that analogy could have some credibility.Anyway, the majority on a submarine will be heterosexual, and they will all want a woman, and there may be only one woman on a submarine with many guys. Now, I respect the military, but I know there are already a lot of sexual crimes in the military, being confined like this would only worsen it. Plus, there is no privacy, what do they do with all female needs, etc. |
