Sunday, November 08, 2009 4:58:13 PM the poll shouldn't have been pulled in the first place everyone would have just voted no anyway, but this is a violation of free speech. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 5:33:27 AM How do you report spamming on here? I fell for usmiyashah14's spam post in this thread, which goes to who knows where (my security and privacy plug-ins are set to forbid scripts unless I give them permission). |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 5:14:13 AM Baal I know you like to get your twopence in, but I work in the financial services industry so I'm accutely aware of how Gordon's policies have affected the economy over his previous 12 years from inflating housing bubles to selling the UK's gold reserves, and as for continuous economic growth that was merely piggybacking global growth. As for the bank bailout that was inevitable unless you wanted a collapse of the banking system. How these bailouts have been achieved and provisoed shows the lack of understanding of the man. If you want to look at specifics lets look at projected GDP, tax revenues, unemployment etc and the fact the projected budget deficit over the next 4 years will reach £1.2 trillion |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 4:40:31 AM Also... a post on a facebook poll calling for the assassination of an American President, is possibly not the best place for a debate on the performance of the British Chancellor. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 4:37:11 AM You're going to assume errantly. Easiest example would be the bank bailout. Apart from this, he, as I said was untouchable his entire term in Office. Blair was re-elected on the popularity of Brown economic policy, which is why they pushed him to come out in support of Blair near the end of Blair's last election. Opinion polls sent Blair back up 10%, enough to secure a majority. I'm more than happy to debate specifics if you'd prefer, but to be honest, I think the man with 25 years experience in economics and trade, and his record as the Chancellor who oversaw and manufactured Britain's longest continuous growth in history, speaks for himself. Brown has always been New Labour's saving grace. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 2:46:45 AM Ten Speed:I'm not sure about that. The poll is not there, its exact content is unknown, so we can't verify if it passes that test or not. Which is why my qualifiers were added in my post. "I don't think this particular poll warrants an arrest, it's probably just some dumb kid, putting up an internet poll. However, I would happily see anyone responding to the poll with actual plans, events and incitement, penalized with whatever measure is appropriate." Incidentally, Barrooo: Gordon, of everyone, is the reason Europe is recovering from the recession. He is the single world leader coping best with the financial crisis out of everyone, and has everyone else following his example. The worth of Obama's economic policies are debatable as are their timing. Gordon's are not, and he has been untouchable by the conservatives since 1985. |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 1:33:54 AM It is amazing considering how much they go on about it, just how little free speech is tolerated in America |

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 1:09:41 AM Sadly while I don't care for it, it's protected by free speech. It doesn't pass the legal challenge for it to be anything more. It wasn't there to incite someone to go and assinate the POTUS. Some things are just disrespectfuf. Before you even start, I'd feel the same way if Bush was in office. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:34:25 PM Sorry, last post. I don't think this particular poll warrants an arrest, it's probably just some dumb kid, putting up an internet poll. However, I would happily see anyone responding to the poll with actual plans, events and incitement, penalized with whatever measure is appropriate. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:12:42 PM Incidentally, the movie was about what would happen in the aftermath of a Bush assassination. It was negative. This is an important point. "I think the film makes it clear it would really be a horrific event" - Director Gabriel Range. The same can be said of the book. The reaction was mostly negative, and the responses included: "shocking" and "disturbing" (Republican Party Rep) John Beyer of MediaWatch said the film "may well put ideas into people's heads". It grossed $900'000. It cost $2M to make. Let me make this clear: If you're claiming "It was OK when it was done to Bush". You're wrong. If you're claiming "Dem's didn't complain when it was done to Bush". You're wrong. If you're claiming "Rep's didn't complain when it was done to Bush". You're wrong. Whatever statement you're trying to make, rewriting history, at a time when we can look it up in 15 minutes, is not particularly w |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 10:56:16 PM Freedom of speech is/was always supposed to be about letting the people address the government for grievances. Protesting is the most sincere form of freedom of speech in its original intention. However, because of the wording, it is the freedom which sounds the most like "I can do what I want and there will be no consequences". So people latch on to that. There are however, things you cannot say without consequence. Not only that, but that is the way it should be. The simplest would be incitement to commit a crime. This could easily fall into that category. A more complex example would be certain Islamic Clerics, that places like Syria kicked out, who now find a home in the west, spreading hatred. There is a reason the UK has more Islamic Terrorists than many Middle Eastern countries. Freedom of speech, alas, is one of them. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 10:30:05 PM I don't really want to stir the pot here, but everyone saying that freedom of speech can go to far is only thinking it from an emotional and not a logical point of view. What do think the response to freedom of speech would be if someone on facebook said "should Hitler be killed"?(provided he was alive and comitting crimes against humanity). I bet everyone would jump on the "Hitler should die bandwagon". People seem to get self-righteous about limits of freedom of speech when it's someone or something that isn't seen as "pure evil" or wrong. Really Folks? It's either an all or nothing proposition with freedom of speech. Just my unsolicited humble opinion. |

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 8:53:56 PM edana42 "nah, bush got a movie instead..."Right, and don't forget the book. I disagree with everything Obama stands for (the only exception being that Kanye West IS a jackass). I think we will look back at him as the worst president in American history. That being said, I definitely do NOT want to see him killed for any number of reasons (not the least of which is President Joe Biden!). No, I would much rather see his administration play out until it reaches its inevitable conclusion: a spectacular and humiliating failure. The American people will not learn from their mistakes if they are not made to suffer for them. Buy gold... |
