Saturday, September 05, 2009 4:20:13 AM The one thing about this I like is the nostalgia.I've been using google since 1998. Google, for me, is still the underdog who is better than everyone else, despite the fact that they now practically owns the internet. |

Friday, September 04, 2009 9:47:50 PM > triggy > gifs pronounced JIFF btw I hate people who pronounce it with a hard G cos thats not rightYou're wrong, it's pronounced giff not jiff. Nerds who like to pretend they know more about computers than others pronounce it "jiff" because they think it makes them look 1337, but actually it shows how stupid they are, because JIF is the JPEG Interchange Format ("pure" JPG format) and they are actually calling a spade a hammer. GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. Acronyms are always pronounced according to the phonetic sound of the words the letters represent. If it was "General Interchange Format", for example, "jiff" would be correct, but as its a soft-G "graphics", it is pronounced giff. PS, "soft" G is a "geh" sound, "hard" G is the "J" sound. You even got that part wrong. |
