I've had a dress code all my life and it is no big deal, people can still express themselves. God forbid schools put in place a dress code where girls cant show off their cleavage or wear skirts that are three inches long."If they can't wear 3 inch skirts than what in the hell am I supposed to look at during Chemistry? The teacher? We all no that's not gonna happen! |

Friday, August 28, 2009 4:57:46 PM Christ, have yous never heard of a bloody school uniform? I've worn one my entire school life. Everybody here does. We don't mind it. Whilst we adhere to the uniform, nobody dressed in exactly the same way. There is more than one type of black cardigan, white shirt, black skirt, black pair of trousers etc in the shops. So it doesn't take away our identities or some silly American ideal like that. We can still express ourselves through it. I don't mind having to wear a uniform. These kids should get used to it, because that's life. |

Friday, August 28, 2009 11:42:26 AM I was just in Indiana a few days ago visiting with family and my cousin was sent home because of that same stupid dress-code. It's ridiculous, all it makes parents do is have to go out and buy like 10 different Polo Shirts and 5 new pairs of slacks. I hate that woman and schools like this, this is freaking AMERICA. Ughhhh. Restricting all of the students expressionism through the way they dress will just make them rebel in other aspects of their life which could be stealing, drugs, etc. Gotta love that superintendent's logic. |

Friday, August 28, 2009 10:12:07 AM that lady needs to stop smiling because of her stupid BS rules. the worst dress code i had was in middle school. no hoodies no tank tops--straps had to be an inch and a half+ no short shorts and shorts had to go past fingertips. no flip flops either. and i couldnt chew gum or eat during class. thenn i get to high school and i can wear whatever i want and basically do anything i want. its completely different. like if you dress like a slut, you can. youll just be called a slut by the entire school. but no ones gonna make you change. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 9:17:42 PM Creating a false allusion of order and compliance in order to indoctrinate the masses into complacent “sheepeople” is not in the best interest of the United States. Individualism is a strength to be prized, not a weakness. Should there be a dress code? Absolutely but, an American public school should not look like, nor act like a Brown Shirt Nazi indoctrination camp. Sad truth, parents need to pay closer attention they’re child’s “re-education” and keep them off the chemical control pills being fed to weaken and “boy down” the masses.

Thursday, August 27, 2009 4:30:02 PM Man, America's supposed to be free, isn't it? I guess I moved from Russia to here, only to find this country quickly becoming a police/nanny state. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 3:41:38 PM I'm reminded of Proffessor Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Everything she did was for everyone's own good, too.

Thursday, August 27, 2009 2:49:46 PM "Welp, this wouldn't be an issue if guys didn't go around with their pants hanging off their asses half the time, and teenage girls weren't dressing up like hookers and two-bit whores. Freedom of expression is a privilege. Abuse it, and those in charge will take it away. Now cry about it."Actually no, freedom of expression...is a freedom. There have been arguments in the past that schools can suspend freedom of expression if it interferes in education, but a freedom is a freedom. A dress code that forbids certain kinds of clothing works just as well at eliminating girls dressed as whores and guys showing off their underwear. Making everyone wear something bland and identical to everyone else belittles personal freedom. Making only the truly bad and distracting clothing off-limits allows people plenty of expression within the limits of reason and self-respect.

Thursday, August 27, 2009 2:09:41 PM Dress codes are totally asinine. Well logic is to reduce violence. As the clothes make the bully. Here in Littleton Colorado after the Columbine incident schools banned trenchcoats because that's what the shooters wore; they also wore socks and underwear over some reason those weren't banned. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 12:56:47 PM So not being able to express oneself through clothing strips students of personality? In that case, I must be a shell of a person since I've been wearing uniforms since I was five. School dress codes suck, yes, I understand that, but honestly, these rules aren't that difficult to follow. It's not as if you're the only person looking like an idiot. It's the rest of the school as well. If you feel so strongly about it, bring a change of clothing and change after school."I liked wearing uniforms (guess I'm a dork) it was so much easier and when we got to dress down, it made it worthwhile! :)" I too look forward to Dress Down and Tag days. :C Highfive! |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 11:29:26 AM too bad every kid they talked to was an idiot and dirty. They should have at least interviewed a few people further away from the trailer park. if you think that statement is bad. go to your local trailer park and look around for a while. stereotypes are based in reality.I still don't agree with the dress code. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 11:23:58 AM just call it for what it is, its a uniform. instead of a stupid "dress code" implying that you have a choice in what you wear, just say "this is the school uniform." there'd be a lot less complaints. and i just wanted to smack that lady. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 10:52:24 AM Oh and I have to agree that it's a sad state of affairs when a kid feels like they can only express themselves with clothing. How about just showing a personality, intelligence, a sense of humour? |
