Thursday, August 27, 2009 8:29:25 AM @Dfaulted: good sci-fi flick. Worth a rent. But get the directors cut. One of the few examples of where a directors cut is better than the theatrical release. They originally made Cameron cut it because it was too long - which had the effect of neutering the main plot.@HolyDiabl0 - good catch. Bullet time was a neat trick. |

Thursday, August 27, 2009 8:27:29 AM personally don't like the way that they are taking that away with CGI ---- If you think about it, though, CGI is an art, too. Just because it was made on a computer doesn't mean it's not art. |

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 8:04:17 PM I think movie make-up and costume design is very skilled art. I personally don't like the way that they are taking that away with CGI, but I suppose the world changes. At least it will never die in the theatre. |

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 5:06:46 PM Personally, i hate movies with lots of CGI.Imperfect as they are, Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion monsters have a life and charm that is sorely lacking in modern motion pictures. Also, i think the vast majority of movies released today in the 'Let's have lots of CGI' genre, tend to spend little attention to the plot and character development. |

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 4:37:27 PM @orlisnjangel: You think any of the other effects in the video were done with off-the-shelf software? Everybody writes custom in-house software for everything. Weta's spinoff software Massive is indeed used worldwide for large crowds, but is hardly the most impressive technological breakthrough, like the motion control cameras shown in the Star Wars clips, or the CG in Tron, or the practical effects in Jason and the Argonauts, or the Wizard of Oz...Cool video. |

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 6:59:45 AM I work with graphics and effects on a daily basis and I have to say this video was pretty entertaining especially being able to understand some of the various technical aspects of creating effects for movies. |

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 6:47:46 AM no Lord of the Rings? That's really upsetting considering the special effects team had to build their own programs for it. Most of which are used world-wide for A.I. battle sequences..goodness i'm a nerd... |
