Thursday, July 30, 2009 5:32:41 AM @keith2They said the same thing about the train, car, motorbike, aeroplane, shuttle, helicopter.... pretty much every invention has received the same criticism. How we advance is to suck it up and take the risk or we will be sitting on this rock until the super sunflare roasts us all like little piggies on a stick. |

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 7:37:33 AM It seems insane, but this is how Human Beings are going to finally manage to get off the planet long term. NASA just doesn't have the ability to convince the swindlers in Congress to finance such an operation, though it does look like China is working on a pretty comprehensive space program. |

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 3:08:39 AM The western model has doomed our planet, so now they wish to send the guilty it into space while the innocent suffer the consequences? |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 10:57:36 PM Is anyone else bothered by the narrator saying it will rocket into orbit? It's a sub-orbital rocket. |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 6:06:19 PM Yes, we should spend all our resources on the poor, so we NEVER get off this rock.Excellent idea. |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 5:16:40 PM Thanks so much for the enlightenment there "Joolin" I realize privatized space travel is the future as N.A.S.A is beholden to the U.S. gov. and most other countries don't have the scientists nor budget to accomplish such a program. I live near Moffet Field in San Jose and see experimental aircraft regularly. The space program is important. As with anything it's about little steps to a goal. I also think we should take care of business here(on earth) as there are no guarantees we will have the tech in time to colonize other planets before we are literally swimming in other people and our own garbage. I don't fault his idea's I just think Branson is a self important jackass.

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 4:46:43 PM @gongxi: Actually, that happens whether or not you go into space. You should just avoid menthols period, space travel or not.@keith2: Basically what you're saying is that even though people fly into space all the time, somehow adding tourists is going to cause the engines to fail? Also, what about airplanes? Sure, they may not actually use rockets, but they're still giant steel tubes flying thousands of feet above ground at hundreds of miles per hour. Do you have the same attitude towards them? |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 4:36:53 PM ----@bikenutt: You're completely missing the point. This isn't the end goal. This is just the beginning. Eventually, private space exploration could replace big, politically crippled, inefficient groups like NASA and allow for affordable space travel and fast, competitive progress. This is the same with any major technology. Take computers for example - when they first came out they were about the size and cost of a large house, but now you can get an even more powerful one for under $500 that can fit in a backpack. Think these things through before you start bashing them, because if everyone thought like you we'd still be sending mail by horseback messenger! |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 4:33:07 PM I can imagine it being really frustrating being in that thing, just floating around, trying to stop to look through a small window and then when you get to a window you can't see Earth...omg that would be so annoying! |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 4:13:58 PM Well its nice to see that 1/10 of 1% of the worlds population will be able to make themselves feel even more entitled by this great tech. Hey Branson how about clean water and food for some of the worlds poorest? Nah, I'm busy building my rocket powered penis extension. |

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 3:33:40 PM Taking a ride on the Vomit Comet will cost about 100 times less and provides the same exact zero-g sensation. But hey, the sales of luxury goods are supposed to reinvigorate the economy. Maybe this can be a first step. |
